Just bought a new TVR rear hood with screen and material to cover the targa panel. Anyone fitted one of these before. The material over the roof panel targa appears to be glued, anyone found a good glue for that - some sort of impact adhesive ?

How does the rear hood attach to the car, is it secured behind the trim panels somehow or glued.
Would appreciate any advice before I dismantle so I can make sure I've got the right glues or whatever, as no garage. So it needs to come off and new one on same day if poss.

Thanks.

There used to be a DIY tutorial on the Griffith Pages but that's now gone.

It is a bit of a pig of a job, personally I'd leave it to the professionals as I don't think it's a single day job even if you've done it before.

Try this link to an instruction document for the targa re-cover :-

Thanks chaps. Would rather leave it to a professional but finding one that will do it justice is a problem. The link that Roy the Boy provided shows lots of areas that require attention to detail (such as glue removal, getting the grain lines to match etc) where corners could be cut and a less than great finish achieved.

To get an original factory roof must be a one off or very near so it needs to be treated properly.

Anyone know any trimmers that I could trust to do a great job ?

Where abouts are you? I know a decent trimmer but it might not be easy to get to if you live miles away. He's doing me a new hood soon and for the price it's not worth me trying to do it myself, despite the fact I would relish the challenge!

Where are you? I'd recommend D&C Trimmers in Bristol Avenue.

That was a good deal. I just paid £354 for an original TVR factory complete roof. As I'd had quotes of £700-£850 for a trimmer doing it, I reckoned I was onto a winner. The targa panel sounds like it needs a professional touch but wondered if I could fit the rear section. Is it clamped into the hood frame or glued ? Anyone know ?

I can recommend D & C Trims at Blackpool. They did mine last year and made a superb job of it. Nice people, and very knowledgeable. Got gear gaiter and mats from them too.

Cardiff.
I think you should head to Swansea. I paid a visit to JR Smith and he quoted me a really good price. I intend to make a booking in April.
Good luck which ever route you choose.

Hi Daz,
I do appreciate your help. Trouble is I'd already bought the TVR roof from Hexham Horseless, thinking it was a great deal (as I'd been quoted £700-£850 for redoing it from scratch). If I hadn't bought the roof already I'd have taken up your recommendation. The deal you got with the seat recovering is excellent.

Cheers, Matt

I've just been quoted £380+ VAT from a south yorkshire trimmer. Need to get the new seals on order and then I'll be booking in.

Lol. Sold the car. I'd have to remember never to call them up for parts in the future !

I'll keep the rood. I'm happy with it, it looks great so far.
I wasn't going to use Hollywood whoever they are. Was either going to do it myself (hence this thread) or find someone good and local. I thought I could probably do the rear section myself but wanted some experienced advice on how difficult the dismantle / rebuild job is and whether the hood is glued to the frame or clamped in someway.
Anyone ? Cheers.
