Mr Deswani has been popping over here for years, measuring folk for suits made in his Hong Kong factory. So he's clearly no fly-by-night.

But is his stuff any good? Value for money?

Anyone ever tried a Raja suit?

I thought about getting a Raja suit too, but I was rather put off by some very mixed reviews I read (and some very fake looking good ones). A couple of "interesting" stories about them here.

I bought two made-to-measure suits from them about 5 years ago and feel that they were reasonable value for money. That's to say they were a very good fit and have been decently hard-wearing. From recollection they were about £1,000 for the pair, each with two pairs of trousers and including a couple of shirts.

I would prefer to find someone I could use in London or the South East though, assuming that pricing would be about the same or maybe a little less.

This place is good if you're after a UK based business http://www.yusufmenswear.co.uk/about-us

Not sure how local it is to you though, or what your budget is!

I bought a suit for them a good few years ago and I have been really happy with it. Although I was in Hong Kong so could go for several fittings and keep an eye on things which may have made a difference.

I've had a couple of suits from them, 600 each. Came back at first with a poor fit but they did some alterations and they were fine. Sone nice touches like lined trousers and snazzy linings. They try very hard to get you to upgrade and the basic price never happens. Bought a suit in an independent shop in Northampton a week ago, fits better than a raja and half the price. Can't speak for how long itll last but we shall see.

When I was in HK a couple of years ago, I went into the the shop and had a fitting.

Picked the materials I wants and the type of design and fit. I also went in for a 2nd fitting, when the suit was half made.

I think the quality and fit was excellent. The price was fair...£500 for a fully tailored suit with any touches I wanted, including my name inside the jacket.

Ive had two jackets off them. £360 and £300.

First one was excellent - a really nice fit (until I lost weight frown). The second one didnt feel as good and I have a sneaky feeling that they used a cheaper material than I asked for.

Overall I think they're reasonable value for money if you HAVE to go down the made-to-measure route.

I found it cheaper to change my name by deed poll.

My parents always used to buy me socks and pants like that. I had no idea they were handmade in Hong Kong.

Yeah I have one. Came to a hotel in Birmingham, did the measuring and chose fabric. Got the suit back a couple weeks later. Trousers needed adjusting so when they came back to same hotel a month or so later took them back and got remeasured, they took them away did the amendments and I got them back about 10 days later. Suit fits well and I am pleased with it. Value for money? Probably cheaper than UK tailors, didn't really shop around. Would I use them again? Meh, dunno.

Bought a suit in a closing down sale £60 including alterations and it fits as well as any suit I have including tailored one. I don't think that there is much difference between a suit that costs £700 or £60, the £700 may last longer but I doubt 10 times longer.

Wow....these guys sure do keep their business low profile.

For years I lived less than a few hundred metres from this shop, bought my newspaper at the newsagents next door every day and ate at the Italian on the other side every week...at no point did I realise that Yusuf's was a proper tailor and not just a shop selling old men's clothes.

Thanks for the link happy!

I bought a suit from Raja fashions a few years ago. The fit was OK, no better than an off the peg suit to be honest. I've since had a suit made at a 'proper' tailor and it was much better. The suit from Raja lasted really poorly though, the trousers wore through in no time at all.

There will proabably be a local company to you who make suits for a decent price (certianly no more thna Raja), I would use them if I were you.
