The McLaren F1 20th Annaversary tour
Discussion
F1 Tour? Hmmmm... Never heard of it. Looks pretty neato though.
Kidding of course - before a few here start throwing things at me.
I was invited and attended the event. I leave Italy tomorrow morning to return to California which is somewhat depressing. The cars have been on their way home since Thursday afternoon, but I've grown fond of other aspects of this wonderful little place.
Anyway if you have any questions about it go ahead with them but I'm going to grab a quick few hours of rest I think and then I am on a plane for nearly the whole day tomorrow so replies might be delayed a bit. Or maybe I won't sleep? Hard to know what the best way to get back on my own schedule might be?

No wonder! Visiting Pagani, Ferrari, and Lamborghini!! Spending time in a plethora of exotica, I can see why you have grown fond of that "little place" Kidding of course - before a few here start throwing things at me.

i didnt realise there was a f1 in australia. my brother lives in victoria where one of the silver ones is from, i'll have to tell him to look out for it.
Definitely do that because the owner uses the car fairly frequently and it is not uncommon to find it parked up somewhere like it is a Holden Commodore that has gone for a run to the shops. I told the owner I think it is fantastic that he treats the car that way. He last displayed it at the 2010 Motorclassica show so there's also a chance he'd do something like that again. One of the things that amazed me most about this event was all the owner's willingness to put quite a few KM or Miles on their cars. I only heard one comment about not taking a car out to keep the mileage low. The rest of them came to drive, and some of them were doing so quite enthusiastically if you get my drift.

I did get to chat with Gordon briefly - mostly to apologize for interrupting him to say 'Hello' while he was judging the cars at Pebble Beach last summer, which I only learned afterwards is a big no-no. He was kind to say it was really no problem.
Unfortunately he had obligated himself to another event during the week of the tour and had to leave the hotel the following morning which prevented many more opportunities to chat. As someone mentioned on AF.com - for him you could tell the event was very special having that many of his wonderful creation set before him left a pretty big smile on his face.
As for telling the story from the top - I will get through it in the coming days. I've got to get back to reality and the routine here in my own world before I am much good for collecting all my thoughts from the trip though.

Do you know if anything is being planned for this years Goodwood Festival Of Speed?
Nothing tied to this event that I am aware of. We know that andyb's GTR 13R in LARK livery will attend and run up the driveway. Also the first longtail GTR is due to be there as well for the same purpose - at least I hope that is still in the cards as I've not seen a recent update. Last year there were a total of 5 F1s at Goodwood if you knew where to look (and it seems that you did, as I recall). Only one of them was an actual FOS event participant - another was in the Black Rock Driver's area and then the rest were spread around in parking areas.Don1 said:
Hold on a minute! Another blue one that isn't Mr F's? I have to say I love the look of the grey/silver one with the MO style wheels and the wing.
Yes - XP4, but it is metallic blue so he would not prefer the color. There's also chassis #011 in metallic blue here in the USA that wears the High Downforce Kit, and #048 in Switzerland but rarely seen that is an even brighter blue metallic. Brunei has chassis #008 which was painted Cobalt Blue. Finally in the USA we have #036 which wears a very pale metallic blue. There were a couple of other cars originally sprayed in blue including #018, #022 and #046 which have all been redone in different colors since then.>8^)

To my knowledge - none. It is my understanding that neither McLaren nor Lanzante will undertake such a project and those are really the only two companies anyone should trust with their McLaren F1.
Back in 2005, GTR #27R was displayed at Goodwood with a phony registration plate and there was a claim on the sign that appeared with the car that said it was "now equipped to road specification" but I am fairly certain this car never actually was registered or driven on the road if the claims of a conversion were even accurate. I think that issue may be where the confusion comes from.
