I need some help! I'm writing a best man speech for someone who is a car enthusiast. As part of the speech I'm thinking a 'marriage is a lot like ...' comparison might be a good addition, however I'm stumped as to how to compare it to a car or motoring. Any ideas? smile

I'm guessing there will a few pessimistic thoughts (Add them; I could do with a laugh!), but any positive suggestions welcome! thumbup

It's not definite that this will be added to the speech, mind. I'm just writing out some ideas! Cheers!

Marriage is a lot like a car, you are always looking to trade it in for a different model

I think that will go down a storm. HTH.

Marriage is a lot like a car.

Nowhere near as cool as a bike.

Marriage is a lot like buying an electric car. It seemed like a good idea at the time...

Marriage is like owning a car at first the servicing is frequent and thorough. In later years the servicing only happens when it is absolutly necessary and is done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Marriage is like owning a car as soon as you have one model you always lust after better ones.

Marriage is like a car - You get all excited about owning a new model and showing it off to your friends. As time passes you find out lots of little niggles that annoy you, parts wear out and need replacing, it becomes more and more expensive to keep the car running as well as it used to, and the longer you have it the stronger the feeling that perhaps a different model would be better suited to you becomes.

Eventually you end up buying a second car, to enjoy at the weekends. This soon becomes a nightmare as you can't afford to run both cars. Whereas the new, sporty car is fast, sexy and noisy, its a pig to keep running sweetly. Your older, more dependable car is boring but you always know it'll get you to work each day.

One day you have to make the decision on which car to keep, and with the economy as it is, the paperwork can be a nightmare to sort when you finally move one on.

Nope, marriage is a lot like having two cars.
Keeping the bodywork of both in pristine condition, the mechanics, these days, usually being pretty reliable.
<looks at groom>, "So put that glass down".

But it is a choice for the long term, in order to offset the carbon footprint of creating such a model.
There are times when you feel you need to go the distance, but it's going to let you down.
You don't know if you're going to make it or not.
It has future potential.
It's expensive

You need to ask yourself how much you value your relationship with the bride, groom and family.

If you make it too realistic, I don't think you'll be welcome for much longer...

Marriage is a lot like a car; as time goes on it starts to fall apart until you're sick of the sight of it and you finally trade it in for a new one.

Marriage is like an episode of Top Gear. You loook forward to it, watch it with ever increasing disappointment and when it's finally over you wonder why you wasted your time.

As a car gets older it needs increasing more servicing, on the other hand as a marriage gets older.......
