I'm determined just once to go the Glastonbury Festival in 2013 and the only way I can persuade the wife to go is if I can guarantee her the use of her own loo and shower.

So I've hatched a plan.....to buy a modest used van (I don't like hiring) with said fitments and drag it along to the dedicated caravan site there (assuming I get tickets of course!). I've seen plenty for sale with a reasonable end bathroom arrangement which would work and I guess would sell on realtively well afterwards assuming we didn't become converts! I'm drawn towards the bigger units but I guess the larger ones have a more limited audience due to towing weights. I'll use my Range Rover so I'm not bothered but suspect others might be.

Just wondered if anyone on here has used the sites available and anything I ought to know! I've canvas camped for many years and do Le Mans but need to make this a bit more comfortable.

Any thoughts welcome!

I wrote a long post but my phone died and deleted it

My advice don't, the site is massive have a look here http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/data/image/m...

That is last years site map, on a bad rainy muddy day you could be looking at 1-1.5 hours walk from your caravan to the action, as you can see on the map the sites are right on the fringes

Also don't go for someone like Tangerine fields, they offer a good service but are based outside of the fence so even further to walk

Simply don't underestimate the scale of the site or how long it can take to get places

Also a lot of the mad freaky glasto action goes on after the stages have shut and you want to be closer to the action, in a caravan you wouldn't want to nip back for a change of clothes or a rest as it would take too long

Get a decent tent and there are certain companies that have showers on site which you can use for a fee I would go this route

We go every year btw if she will only do it in a van still go its the greatest place on earth

Oh and check out the efests forums, the guy who runs it is a bit of a penis but there is a huge amount of knowledge on there

If you got the cash : http://www.campkerala.com/

Looks great but IMHO suffers from the same issue as the others like it, outside the fence meaning you miss out on a lot and have a huge trek to get anywhere

Your biggest problem could be getting tickets for the van/caravan field, they go like hot cakes.

Brilliant stuff, thanks all.

I rally cars on Worthy Farm and only live about 15 miles from it so have a fair idea of scale, just never been near it at festival time and am keen as mustard to go and do it for the weekend.

Take on board the walking bit, I've heard that before but suspect I can cope with that. The tent option is a no-go so will have to compromise somewhere and personally not intending to spend much time polishing my caravan while I'm theresmile

That luxo-tent option looks great, better not let anyone here see that!

I think the queue of people who know him is miles long, funnily enough he's a popular guy! With the right postcode, there are some local options but of course, mine is wrong!

Have a look at this thread on the ever so lovely eFestivals site...

http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/topic/170404-ca...

Looks like it is a bit of a hike but more than do-able.

Have been mulling over getting a van and converting it myself recently. With a new-ish littlun and a canvas phobic missus I think it's the way to go!

Interesting. We were in E25 a couple of years ago in the family field and it wasn't too onerous, and we had a toddler. It's no further than many of the tent fields, but we did arrive early.

E25 does look to be one of the better ones, maybe I am just a wuss but I like to be close, minimal walking so I have more energy for seeing the bits I want to

What are the camper an fields like do they feel detached or do you still feel part of the party?

You're definitely outside the site, but compared to the carnage of the tent fields it's very civilised. As I said we had a toddler with us so a quieter site suited us. We were there with a couple of other PHers so I'll point them here for a less sprogged up perspective, but Will certainly didn't seem to be hindered by being with us hehe

Ah OK cheers, I think my years of tenting it are drawing to a close so may have to take the plunge one day, its either that or stop going and thats just a daft prospect smile
