I'll be in the UK next week & will be passing close to Woking, is any of the Mclaren technology centre open to the public, can I just turn up & go for a tour/ look around old race cars?
Can't find anything on the website.
Cheers

If you ask nicely they'll take lots of money off you to become a fan.

If I save up I might be a customer in 10 or so years.
Big fan of F1 team & haven't seen a MP4-12C yet.
Guess I'll have to wait a few years

Nope, not open to the public as far as I aware. They do tours, but only for guests and sponsor visits and rarely during the season because of the chance of seeing something you shouldn't. At least that's what I was told a couple of years ago.

Why not just give them a call? The worst they can do is say no.

We're showing some of our cars there for their staff motorshow and don't get a tour for being there all day frown

You can see an MP4-12C at a dealer.

Or, sit outside the MTC for a few hours.. I probably see atleast 3-4 MP4-12C each week, and thats even here in Milford (Not sure why they're down here so often..)

We had a tour last Friday.

It was one of the best things I have ever done, being interested in both the cars and also the engineering and design side of the building.

We got the opportunity to look around several parts of the MTC including the wind tunnel, the boulevard (where they have 20 or so McLarens to look around) and the race bays and preparation rooms - it's not very often you get to look around a modern Formula One car without the bodywork. It was fantastic.

Oppurtunities to look around don't come along very often so should a chance ever arise I'd grab it with both hands!.

I'd be surprised if you blagged a tour by just phoning up but if you don't ask you don't get!.

when you call, make sure you ask for jenson, rather then Lewis as the tour guide. Leeis is a bit...street for some people.. And Ron always gets sidetracked talking about dust, etc...!!

Seriosuly, if you're in that region Brooklands isnt far away which is a great museum and Merc world. Two excellent Aston specialists just off the A3 as well.

I was fortunate enough to visit a few months ago. One of the numerous mementos received over the course of the day was a book which commemorated the build of the factory, the history of McLaren etc.

One of the interesting quotes in it is;

'You can have all the money in the world, but you can't come into the MTC without an invitation...'

But as said, there's no harm in trying - really is a fabulous place to see.
