One of our hire cars is a 987 Boxster, 05 plate. Having big trouble getting some sort of ipod connection in.

Was opting for a Parrot Mki9200 but have today been told that as it cant be done because it has a Cambus (spelling?) system which cant be hacked into. Not pleased. I have the CDR-24, standard system fitted.

I know of the Denison stuff, but i think £300-£400 is too steep just to have ipod integration. £150 for the parrott was acceptable.

So:

1) Has anyone had fitted a Parrot system?
2) What other options do i have - FM transmitters (unless uber cool and not naff) excluded.

Its a self drive hire car so needs to 'fit' nicely!

Its out on long term hire end of next week so need to get something asap!

Thanks, Mark

I can't really help, but one question - is warranty an issue?

AFAIK there is no solution outside Denison or official Porsche integration, which I think is just hard wired to the aerial in a Gen.1 car.

When I investigated this (on a 2006 987S), Dension was the best bet - it is expensive, but it works pretty well once it's been set up. You need the car to be coded to accept a 6-disc changer apparently.

Anyone any more ideas on this?

Spoke to parrot today who said their system doesn't touch the cambus system so they had no idea why halfords said avoid/no based in the fact it had cambus.

Looking at a specialist to try and see what they can do on Parrot

When I had my 987, I had fitted the Dension FM modulator with the lead tucked away in the glove box. That worked pretty well. Only cost a £100.

I think Porsche offer a FM modulator for the gen 1 987's that fit in the centre armrest. I don't know how much that costs - it wasn't available when I first bought my 987.

Hope this helps....

Have you looked at the Dension Gateway Lite? There is not much point in getting the 'full fat' Dension without a PCM because you will won't be able to control the iPod directly from the head unit anyway.

It is a bus solution, so should sound better than the FM alternatives, but is about half the price of the Dension 500.

Try this.....?

http://www.incarhandsfree.co.uk/hands-free-car-kit...

Fitted to my 2004 986 S with PCM2 & Bose MOST. Gives BT handsfree and iphone/itouch integration, ipod ? do they have BT ?

Compat chart states Porche 2000-2009 with PCM2.0 & PCM2.1 (assume not PCM3 then)

Works well, really pleased. Had MKI installed, but lots of issues so was de-installed by specialist and replaced with Viseeo..

Not sure Halfords are up to such a job - being let loose with such cars and technology ?

Hi Mark

It depends what you were told about 'hacking' into the CANBus. I have the Dension Gateway 500 and fitting it was a cinch. You do have to build it in to the fibre optic loop in the car (MOST) but that's just a case of unplugging something at any one of a several locations and re-connecting using a small plastic connector they supply for you.

Not knowing anything about the Parrot kit, I don't know how much (if any) applies to you.

Hi

Connects2 do an adaptor that fits into the most circuit. I have no personal experience of it. I tried it with the CDR 23 in my car. It was not designed for that and didn't work. It is designed for the cdr24 though so you should be fine.

I dealt directly with connects 2 and their customer service was great.

Sorry, forgot to mention you can get an adapter to connect to the CANBus. I actually did it by merely identifying the connections on the head unit I needed and attaching that way. I could equally have bought the adapter but wanted to get it sorted on a particular weekend so just went ahead. Only a different way to skin that particular cat. smile
