As per title, are there any specialists who can retro-fit cruise control to a current model focus?

If memory serves me, the topic has been discussed here somewhere:

http://www.focusrsoc.com/forums/

but you probably will not be able to access it if you're not a paid member. A brief search brings up:

Posting this here as I have done on STOC, hopefully it will be useful to some of you as I know a lot of people would have liked the ST/RS to have cruise control.

I'm in no way affiliated with this guy but have been looking at options for retrofitting cruise control which I miss greatly.

Prices range greatly from £450-£600 depending on where you look, for example

http://www.auto-mate...-cruise-control - £485!!

http://www.avit-audi...ise-control.htm - £550!!

I've been in touch (on recommendation) with a guy in the south west called Chris who runs a site called www.carretrofit.co.uk

Fitting takes about 3-4 hours.

I'll be getting this fitted timed in with a visit down south, might be a wee while before I can get there though, thought I'd pass this on to the forum as for me this is an excellent deal. Normal price is £420...

Cruise control

I got it working! My car is a 58 plate (October 2008) 2 litre diesel Titanium.

I have the 3 spoke steering wheel so would need a new 4 spoke wheel, air bag and switches which together would cost £632 + vat new. Then I would need to get a dealer to activate it: which is not easy. It is a big outlay on something that might not work.

Before I paid out £632 + vat I though I would try to get it working first, so I bought the switches and connected them and taped them to the top of my existing wheel, see photo.

I went to my local dealer in Macrea & * * * * of Inverness and asked if they could enable it. They said they did not know how to do it so they phoned Ford who said it could not be done, so I went away.

I hunted round and found the instructions for enabling cruise control as follows:

  • ******************************************************* ***
Areas need to activated are:

Under "Module Programming" select "Programmable Parameters" and then "Personality" and enable the following 2 items:

Speed control - GEM = Yes

Speed control - IC = Enabled

Do these 1 at time.

Then Under "Module Programming" select "Programmable Parameters" and then "Speed Items" enable the following option:

Speed control - PCM = Present

  • ******************************************************** ***
I went back to the same dealer and spoke to the Service Controller who agreed to change the settings as per the instructions. I watched him do it in the car park with the IDS. He followed the instructions exactly. It took just under half an hour. They charged half an hours labour which cost £39.68.

It works well. Even the light on the dash comes on, see photo. Now I have it working, I will see if I can make a job of attaching the switches to my 3 spoke wheel or find a 4 spoke wheel and air bag.
