As above, I know the closure was planned but has it come about yet?

A friend of mine mentioned he thought it was now closed. Can anyone confirm?

I need to put a plate on retention soon.

All cherished numbers I believe have to be done now by post to Swansea. And it takes an absolute age. I Put a number on retention as was selling the car, took 5 weeks from them recieving paperwork at Swansea. Luckily buyer waited on it.

New licence is a 4 week wait

V5 form is 5 - 6 weeks wait

Numberplate transfer is 4 - 6 week wait.

Its taking the piss. Proving even more now... what is road tax paying?

sent a cherished retention to Edinburgh office a couple of weeks ago. Retention form back in less than a week and new V5 in about 10 days....check the DVLA website but the local offices still seem to be doing the transfers at the moment.

I bought a car in Wales a couple of months ago. After taking it North I went into the Edinburgh DVLA office with the paperwork and it took 15 minutes to complete and get the authorisation papers for the new plates and a new tax disc.
Three days ago the same paperwork came through from Swansea along with a tax disc. The person in the Edinburgh office
said that would probably happen. Political job justification and duplication. If in a hurry drive to Edinburgh, very helpful
people.

Think you will find that the DVLA Swansea changed everything in July, apparently a Modernisation of Service...
the local offices will take the paperwork from you, but they then post to Swansea.
If you have a Retention Certificate(of a certain colour) they will put that on in the local office but cant remember
which colour the Ret cert has to be..

Should add that with my job I was in the DVLA office getting vehicles registered and taxed at least 3 times a week every week for the last 8 to 10 years.

Yet I changed my plates two weeks ago.

Received the new MOT, Tax disc and approval to make up the plates via post but from the ABZ office, the retention certificate and V5 came 10 days later from Swansea.

Due to a backlog DVLA offices are now doing some retentions/transfers but its on a day to day basis depending on how busy Swansea are. Best bet is to drop the paperwork into the local office and if its done its a bonus if not well youve not lost anything as they will forward it onto Swansea anyway.

For info, I've just been in to the DVLA office in Aberdeen. They are indeed closing at the end of Oct. In the meantime, they are accepting private plate transfers and retention requests. However they are processing them locally, they'll be sent to Swansea so expect it to take 10 working days. They are basically just taking payment and checking over the documentation.
