Has anyone had any dealings with this company?

They have a plate I am interested in.

I have so far found it on 3 sites. One for almost 6k, one for 5k and them for 3k.

One of the sites has confirmed it is for sale 100% and they were accepting £3650.

I am unsure how the business of plate selling works.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

They are just acting as brokers on the plate on behalf of the owner. They will do all the work in transferring it and then pass on the proceeds to the vendor after taking their cut.

I found both my plates advertised on multiple sites, regtransfers was not the cheapest in either case

They have a 'Buy it now' option. They then ask for car registered keeper details etc.

I am assuming the seller has given a minimum price? Then it is up to the companies to get what they can. With further searching I have found it for 7k! regtransfers is definitely the cheapest.

If I pay for it online and buy as such they aren't going to come back saying 'sorry we want 5k'?

This is important for the 'nominee name' more so if you are requesting it on certificate. The other important factor is the age of your car (if it is not a dateless 'plate)

Unlikely. The only way that would happen was if it was not a stock number plate and was being sold on behalf of a private client.

A pal of mine asked me to buy a plate on his behalf , I made a reasonable bid to be told that they had received another bid way over the asking price. Told them I would only deal at the price offered.

No deal.

Months later , same plate same seller it was bought at less than what I offered on his behalf previously.

Let the buyer beware.

I've bought a couple of plates off them and both times I haggled over the price and got a discount - £500-£1000 off similar priced plates to yours. If they own the plate they will have bought it cheap, if they don't and a re selling it on commission they won't care how much it sells for as they will have a minimum charge anyway.

It is non-prefix too so would be happy if I can get it for the advertised price.

I have offered just under to see what reply I get.

I've used them both to buy & sell perhaps 10 plates over the years (all cheapies, though); found them to be polite, helpful and efficient to deal with. But it does pay to haggle as a buyer.

Don't pay the advertised price to any of them. Phone up and haggle. Most plates hang around for months and are actually quite hard to sell. As soon as you turn up waving some hard cash the price can be usually be negotiated down quite well. At the end of the day it's just a question of what the owner will accept to get rid of it quickly.

Whenever you buy a plate you are at some risk because there is a phase when you have parted with your cash but don't have the plate and have no right to the plate. Caveat emptor.

Unusual for them to be the cheapest, and I mean that from a good point of view.
As I'm sure MrMooneyMan will have told you, they don't share their lists between dealers and therefore they must have a direct line of contact to the seller if they are selling it.
Let me know if we can be of any assistance.

And that's the joys of going through a dealer. If the sale doesn't proceed they won't have paid out for your plate and therefore should be able to immediately give your money back if it fails. Unless the dealer is dodgy, of which you will find one in jail at the moment, and one showing up on Watchdog in the near future wink
