Corsa C oil leak, any ideas what could be causing this?

Noticed a funny smell the other day, so popped the bonnet and was greeted by oil all over the engine as pictured.

Any ideas what could be causing this? There was smoke (oil burning) coming from that thing that is sticking out of the main block where it joins the main block itself.

I'm asking here first because I'd rather not have to join another forum...



ETA I can't get this photobucket link to work, never had a problem before, puzzled.

That's the oil filter housing. Tighten the black cap up and the leak should stop.

Thanks. I'll give that a go. Its just been serviced so it could be that.

I had the same issue but on the cdti it's located at the rear of the engine.
A new filter should come with a rubber seal.

Looks like the oil filler cap has not been refitted properly.

Who serviced it? I'd put my mortgage on the fact they didn't bother changing the rubber seal on the housing lid cos its fiddly! The seal would come with the new filter too.

Looks like the oil filler cap as others have said. No spray on the opposite side of the filter housing. Always a possibility though. They like to chew through oil pressure switches which can spectacularly redecorate your engine bay - as I discovered when mine gave up. Will be on the left just below the rocker cover. It'll probably let go eventually but they're only about a tenner new from Vauxhall.

Obviously that's not the cause this time but if something similar happens again up at the top end like that, very good place to start is the pressure switch.

As others have said, looks like the filler cap or the filter isn't/wasn't seated properly..causing oil come out while running and get whipped around in the airflow

Doesn't sound good. I'll check this. Will it be possible to get this seal without the filter?

A bit annoyed if they have cut corners as I took it there as one of my mates is the manager there, but it'll be hard to prove now as a good few weeks has passed.
