Afternoon all, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on possible causes for the above fault?
I was out for a bit of a trundle about this morning and the warning appeared after clonking a pothole/lump in the road, hit it square so no wheel/tyre damage thankfully. Is this likely to be a battery reset type fix or has something become loose or open circuit and a trip to the dealer the answer? It's under warranty by the way.
Thanks.

Its showing 'SRS airbag service urgent' in the right display along with the red warning triangle and the red airbag light on the left.

You might have a case of 'RTFM'.

I don't have my V8 Vantage manual in front of me but this is from a DB9 manual (section 4.7):

Warning
Do not drive the vehicle if the SRS warning lamp remains on. Have the system checked by an Aston Martin Dealer.
(9) SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) (Red) –
At ignition positions ‘I’ and ‘II’ or on vehicle start up, this lamp illuminates for a few seconds as a readiness indicator. If it does not illuminate, or if it does not go off after a few seconds, or if it comes on whilst driving, the airbag self-diagnostic system has detected a fault.

OK. I think I know the one. I am noooo expert, so these are my, "thoughts", firstly, nice wheels I like the Sportpack wheels......

I don't think it's a battery reset issue, too big i'm afraid. Normal OBDII stuff such as, "lean burn", etc can be diagnoised using a piece of equipment costing about £70.00, this can reset your Emissions lights, but NOT your more important ABS and AIrBag lights, if you think about it they are not emissions issues.

It's ok getting your light turned off, you need to know the reason it came on though. You can get it turned off, some people won't charge others just £30.00 or so and it's off, but why did it come on in the first place? confused The problem with Franchice Dealers (IMHO) is they don't really care, they will look at your car and reset the light, take them about 3 minutes in total. It will stay off all day, they will hand the car back to you and give you some story about going through diagnostic checks and its sorted, "if it comes back on, come and see us". All they will do is turn it off and hope it does not come back on, then invoice AM for warranty work, human nature I guess ....... rolleyes

If you hit a pothole and it happened, it sounds like there is a lose connection somewhere, the problem is you don't know which AirBag it is, I'm guessing there is 4 in the Vantage. Really you need to be checking them all, it's not rocket science, you just find the AirBag, and check the connections.

Having said that, sometimes these issues can be sorted by turning the light off. I had the Emissions Light come on and people told me just to turn it off. I did but it just came back on, and on and on and on, then i sorted the issue, turned it off and it never came back on again. But having an engine not breathing properly is different to not having an AirBag save your life in an accident.

Dealer will turn the light off, and hope it won't come on again, it, "might", work, but I'd check all the AirBags for lose connections ...... But if it's under warranty and not costing you anything, just let the dealer turn it off and off and off, only issue really is why did the damn thing come on in the first place? Having blocked airfilters is different to having your face saved in a head on incident ..... smile

Discuss this with your dealer, its not an issue you can resolve yourself, unless you're into this sort of stuff...

Yup....extended warranty SHOULD cover this (happy to be corrected) and if you explain to them how it happened they should act on that.

Although I find the Dealership network has the odd rogue element it is essentially a credit to the marque so I would disagree with overly negative comments. Having dealt with the BMW network over the last 12 years I can tell you that AM Dealers leave it standing yes

Most airbag warnings are caused by a connection with a resistance that is too high, typically around 3 ohms - poor or loose connection. A cheap and easy D.I.Y. way to start is to disconnect the airbag plugs under the seats, spray with WD40 or electrical contact cleaner and refit. Airbag wires are generally much thinner than standard wiring so quite easy to find. The plugs also normally have some form of locking device that you need to prise apart.
The other common place for the fault is the airbag on the steering wheel. This is more involved needing the wheel removed and should not be tackled unless you are competent with this type of unit. If it is rotated with the wheel removed it will break and cost a lot to put right.
Otherwise a diagnostic tool that can read the system will show which circuit the fault is in.

Thanks for the replies,
I had a look at your steering wheel thread Maverick so took the horn cover off and checked the airbag connections, all seemed to be ok there so I'm guessing the fault is elsewhere. I shall get it booked in this week for a checkover.

I had the same issue on my 2006 V8 Vantage a while back and it turned out to me a faulty switch/sensor located under one of the seats!

Just a thought.........

On the odd occasion when I pull V8's to pieces, I sometimes test things before putting the centre console, gearchange trim back in. One of the plugs here is the airbag warning light. This will put up airbag warning lights.

Has the centre console been out recently? Because the plug is vertical it could work loose if the retaining clip was damaged.

Happy New Year to All,

Kind Regards,

James @ Trackaphone (Paralight)

How about when I pass Bristol next, I come and take your car to bits FOC biggrin

I tend to take pictures of the finished article rather than work in progress, some owners find it scary! However I will see what I can do.
