January monthly photo competition - TRAVEL - Entries thread
Discussion
It's getting harder and harder to find a topic we've not had before! This month's competition theme is "Travel".
Make of this what you will - anything from migrating Wildebeest to space shuttle launches, so long as it's moving something from A to B, it's welcome.
This is the Entries thread, no chat just your pictures please.
Monthly Photography Competition Rules:
The photos taken must be your own work.
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for following month and judges it at the end of the month
There will be two threads that need starting: The Entries thread to commence same time as Discussion thread. In the Entries thread only one picture should be entered. Any others you wish to discuss should be posted in the Discussion thread.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 750 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo due to the PH squash factor. Links to larger versions are permissible.
Not essential but feel free to include any EXIF info on the shot.
Good luck!

ooh I might win by default
Shot taken at Sunset Beach on my travels.
Blimey! This judging lark is bloody difficult!!!
Anyway, drum rolls and reverse orders......
In third place, we shall have ecsrobin's Lynx. The overwhelming majority of B&W shots appear to have been done because B&W is trendy. This is the exception that should be waved in all their faces.
In second place comes K12beano's Wright brothers memorial. I love the light in it, the depth of the blueness in the sky, and whichever brother it is staring up into it!
And, picking up the intensity of the drum roll.....
The winner is.......
Neilski's mountains! Some of the other photos were probably more technically accomplished, or had more time go in to actually thinking about taking a shot just for the shot, but ever since this one was posted, I've been looking at it with a mixture of envy that anyone gets to ride a bike somewhere like that, and utter incredulity that anyone would ride a bike somewhere like that, especially so heavily laden!
For the purest possible encapsulation of "travel" to me, this one wins, but well done one and all, because yet again we've got a month without a single shot that isn't of the highest possible calibre!
Over to Neil for February's topic.

Thank you!And a well worthy winner - I love that shot and can almost feel the movement in the road at that angle of view.

Such kind words, Thankyou. Well done to all entrants all the images in here are superb. And I definitely think the winning image is the right one. What a great picture and certainly shouts travel to me
Wow, thanks for choosing me Chris, and thanks for the kind words from everyone else.
As Chris said, not a lot of thought went into this one. I was stood at the side of the road, stuffing yet more sugary treats down my neck when I thought "Ooh, snowy mountains, this would make a good photo." so out came the camera, a quick snap and I was on my way. I didn't think it would win compared to some of the more arty shots on here so thanks once again.
New topic for February will be up in the next few minutes so good luck everyone.
