Su carb - pre heater help
Discussion
i would say that that is not a pre heater, its a dash pot warmer to stop the dashpot freezing and jamming once the car is running.
export cars to very cold areas used to have a spacer that went between the su and the inlet manifold to warm the mixture - it had a fairly thick filiment in it

+1 this. over the years there were many types of SU & Solex carb heaters that used different approaches from the dashpot 'wrap' as above through to the electric blanket types. in the US there used to be a box design for siamese engines that wrapped under the exhaust manifold, up and over the carb area to supply constant warmth to the carbs; though not quite sure what this did to running efficiency...it was just there to stop internals icing-up and sticking.export cars to very cold areas used to have a spacer that went between the su and the inlet manifold to warm the mixture - it had a fairly thick filiment in it
