My Oriental Blue Citroen C4 VTS 180
Discussion
Have been lurking for a while now and thought it was finally time I signed up
This is my C4 VTS 180 Coupe - my 3rd C4 in total now! Purchased in August 2012 for £2900 with only 38,000 on the clock, 1 previous owner, FSH and in on of the rarer colours, Oriental Blue. I bought the car without seeing it after asking a few questions over the phone and then took a 3 hour train journey to Newcastle to pick it up. Only problems were that the climate control would only blow out hot air on any setting (easily fixed with an £8 kit from Citroen), the headlamp washer pipes had perished and the back box had come loose at some point and had been remounted at a slight angle.
My attraction is the amount of spec you get for your money on C4s. This particular car has full heated leather, bi-directional xenon lights, panoramic roof, climate control, along with the other usual C4 refinements.
Anyway, a few days after arriving home:

First bits purchased from Citroen; climate control repair kit and facelift Chevron/C4 badges:

Dashboard dismantled to replace snapped heater motor cogs with uprated ones:

Original badges removed and replaced with facelift badges:
Private plate also fitted - in hindsight it's a little tacky!

Centre caps stripped and refreshed as the paint had worn off:

Finally something interesting:

Bilstein PSS B14 Coilovers, which were a bit of a pain to fit due to the location of the top mounts on the C4. Before and after:

I then purchased some genuine mudflaps and 2 sets of H&R 25mm spacers, as the arches on the C4 are massive and the wheels just look lost. It's also at this point that I managed to lose one of the headlamp washer covers by pulling it out to clean around it and ended up snapping it off!

More boring bits were purchased to replace bits that were not right, including a new washer bottle cap and drivers side air vent as the drawer on the original would not open:

Then fitted bonnet dampeners and a K&N Typhoon induction kit to replace the oem airbox, which is the largest thing I've ever seen in my life

I saw these on ebay by chance and bid on them, not thinking I'd win them, but I did! Brand new genuine 2011 C4 17" Phoenix wheels from the "Exclusive" model. 7.5j compared to the 6.5j standard items. Retail price is £325 each and I got them for £305 all in. Not every bodies cup of tea, but they are different to the standard wheels and I'm not a huge fan of aftermarkets.

I purchased 4 Michelin Pilot Sports to wrap them in and fitted them to the car

It was around this time that I decided to drive my car over a curb in the dark, resulting in a very poorly sump. A new one was purchased for.... £380!! And that was cost price too!

New VTS badges as the 'S' had turned pink from age

I decided that I wanted to fit an oem sat nav. There are a few head unit options that are compatible, but in the end I sourced an RNEG unit that I believe came from a 2010 C5. I set about sourcing a screen, cables (from France) and fascia (£140 from Citroen!) and set about instaling:

Cigarette lighter replaced with Auxiliary input

CD Changer removed from arm rest (redundant) and replaced with storage bin

Since installing the unit my parking sensors are permanently disabled and my trip computer has disappeared. I've either missed a couple of wires, or they need reactivating via Citroen's Lexia software.
And this is how she stands at the minute

The exhaust is on it's way out and an OEM replacement is nearly £1000 from Citroen as it's bespoke for this model! Full stainless and sports cat will be fitted when I have a few more pennies. I don't have any plans other than exhaust system at the minute. Tuning wise, there's not a lot you can do to this engine without spending silly money and I'm also tempted by a V6 Gary Stone conversion!
Thanks for looking

Them wheels looked hideous when off the car and tyres less, but they look fabulous on it! Quite busy design on them, somehow lends themselves to the quirky design of the c4.
It looks a smart bit of kit and an interesting motor, that's for sure. Nice job tweaking it, although I'm never a fan of coilys on road cars, even top notch billy stuff is a bit harsh I think.

Like the idea of one of these. A friend had the diesel version which didn't appeal so much but would be interested to feel how one handles and rides. Is it like Frog hot hatches of old on the standard suspension or is it crashy like modern stuff?
Just had a look on the classifieds and there are none as nice as this one. Looks very nice.

Wow, tanks for al the nice comments... wasn't sure how it would be received
When I was initially looking for a new car, I wanted something modern and a little quirky and different. I saw the C4 coupe and snapped it up... that was 5 years ago and I'm on my 3rd now. Never had problems with any of them apart from the odd software gremlins.
The standard suspension isn't too bad really, but the Bilstein's are quite harsh as you'd imagine. I know the wheels aren't everyone's cup of tea (even I'm 50/50 sometimes!), but I just wanted to try something different to the standards.
Performance wise, they are 174bhp with 149 lb-ft torque (marketed as 180, because it's French!), with a 0-60 of 8.1. Induction, exhaust and a decent remap can get you to around 200bhp, after that it gets expensive as there aren't many performance parts available for this engine.
Cams, for example, are around £1300 and give you again of 12bhp. There is a company that tunes a lot of 206 GTI 180s (same engine) and they have managed to get some great gains, although very expensive
