Culter Car Centre, Aberdeen. What's the story?
Discussion
Noticed that the premises in Culter are boarded up and the new showroom they are building on the Drum Straight is still not finished. Website still up but only one car in stock!
Anyone know what's happened? I have bought a couple of cars from them over the years, and they always had some decent stock.

I can only suspect their reputation has caught up with them, that's all I'll say
Anyway, a friend mentioned they've started knocking the place down, new flats going in its place. It looked very run down at the weekend with no cars on the forecourt.
The building at Drumoak hasn't moved on at all in over a year now... run out of cash I suspect. Wonder what they'll do with it, huge building. Perhaps they were a little ambitious.

was wondering this myself, they had an interesting reputation, which i won't go into. but the building in Drumoak hasn't been touched in about a year, so i suspect that they are gone for good now.
their previous site is indeed being demolished but i wouldn't be surprised if a bigger isore is put in its place
no place for small car dealerships anymore

Says they placed up to £200k in orders to AC Yule for glass for the showroom and that Yules went bust.
Management not sure what they intend to do now.
Cheers,
That's a shame if that's the reason they have gone out of business. But surely anyone wouldn't pay the full amount until the glass is installed, a deposit perhaps. I know I wouldn't pay upfront for my home windows. Management not sure what they intend to do now.
Cheers,
Hmmm. Sell the old premises for flats and make a mint. Then fold the company before the new premises are complete. Sell the stock back into trade and make another mint. Attempt to get change of use for the new premises in order to make a third mint. Retire.
From the local councillor's comments in the P&J he placed great value on not losing a business like theirs from the area. I'd bet that the fact they were expanding and yet only relocating a couple of miles away went a long way towards getting their planning permission for another block of flats on Culter's already crowded high street...
At a guess i'd say the cars were all paid for stock rather than finance (the high prices and glacially slow stock turnover suggests it wasn't financed). Surely if you were serious then another £200k for windows would be manageable when you have a stock list worth, say, half a million at least? The bad debt can be written down against the tax burden too...
Perhaps I'm just a cynic
