Hi all,

We had a water meter fitted (wasn't our choice, they are doing the whole area) recently and since then you can hear a 'clunk' noise constantly from the water system. This is all day, and every 5-10 seconds, all night as well. It seems worse at night, but that may be just that things are quieter then.

Any ideas?

cheers

Andy

Is water flowing continuously for some reason? See if the meter reading is moving. I can't see why the meter would make any noise unless it was flowing.

Is the meter inside your house? Perhaps the fitter has fully opened a stop tap that was partially shut before to stop water hammer.

The water meter is outside in the pavement, under a metal inspection plate. I don't think I can get to it. I don't have a gauge or anything to look at in my house.

Does the water pressure seem higher than it was before?

I guess all you can do is call the water company and see if they'll come and have listen.

No, I would say nothing has changed. I'll give them a call.

I would definitely try and lift up the cover and see if the clunk coincides with the meter turning, and if it does when you are not expecting water usage then you need to act quick before your new meter gives you a big bill!
