Evening all!

With our recent excursion into a hedge, we're in need of a full respray on our mk2 Tuscan S. The car was originally Spectraflair Topaz but a few years ago was changed to a different topaz/gold pearl.

Now i'd always told myself that if I had the money to respray, i'd go for Reflex Charcoal but that would also require a fairly major retrim or at least recolour of the blue leather (not sure if that could be done cheaply?) So i'm opening up the floor for some opinions.

- Put the car back to the original factory colour (maybe a bit better)
- Go for a similar Topaz/Gold pearl that it was recently but with some added spectraflair effect
- Repaint in Reflex Charcoal and somehow sort out the interior, maybe at a later date.
- Something else

Original:

The most recent Blue/Gold Pearl:

Comparison of the above (original on the right)

Current Interior:

Reflex Charcoal:

Or through to something leftfield into the mix (not sure on whether it's achievable in my budget), a colour called Dark Fantasy:

Dark Fantasy yes, that would go with the grey interior,so you would just need to change the blue.

Seems to me the original colour is a perfect match with the interior.

I think a darker blue (would you get away with a non-metallic (and thus cheaper) Red Bull blue?) would also work.

If money was no object, I would go for some kind of mental chameleon purple / blue / silver / chrome combo, against the muted interior (which I love, by the way - no dyeing needed), but maybe that's just me.

Dark Fantasy, and do the interior at the same time anyway (to save costs in the long run). Man maths!

On a Tuscan the Reflex Charcoal is just gorgeous, might get away with it with the interior perhaps - just.

When I finally get round to getting mine it'll be White, black wheels, black roof.

I would choose either of the original colours, both look fantastic and work well with the interior.

But if money was no object I like the green one but paint and a retrim will be a lot of money.

I really like Dark Fantasy or Spectraflair Copper. I've also thought about BMW Ruby Black with a Spectraflair coat over the top!

Just as a complete alternative. if i was in your position and looking for a fresh colour, the best colour I've ever seen on a TVR is that beautiful deep Racing Green green (or orange of course.. wink) :-

The dark fantasy will only look like the one in the photo a couple of times a year, belive me the rest of the time it will look black, keep the colour as it is as the interior only goes with it topaz

The original colour looks superb; and who in their right mind would want a black Tuscan biggrin

Off to see the bodyshop (and dave the trimmer next door) on Monday to have a look at some spray cards of the Topaz/Spectraflair as that's what the insurance is covering. Both Reflex Charcoal and Dark Fantasy are coming out at a fair bit more expensive so i'll have to work out the difference in costs, along with what dave can offer/suggest on the interior.

At this stage, it's most likely it'll be spectraflair topaz. Keeps the car original, whilst stops me spending any more money, however there's a niggling part of me that wants to change just for the sake of change!

Tovie.. I can see your point about the dark fantasy just looking black most of the time, and that was one of my concerns too as the current topaz/gold pearl always looks great even in dull light so i'm not sure if i'd miss that. It would look good on those sunny days though scratchchin

I'd stick with the original colour Dave as it looks great and the costs for Reflex Charcoal (although clearly I'm a big fan) + interior retrim could get way out of hand.

Nearly bought a Tuscan 2S in this colour with black/carbon fibre effect leather interior a few years back...the car was at Henley Heritage which gives a clue as to how long ago it was! Looked fabulous..wonder if it is still around?

So, time for an update. We had the opportunity to see the car out in the sunshine yesterday so thought we'd take a few pics even though it's not quite ready to be back on the road yet.

After numerous samples, we ended up going for a basecoat using Ferrari Avio met, and then adding 3 coats of Spectraflair Lite pigment. This spectraflair lite is 1/10th of the cost of the original stuff and very much more subtle in its colour change and effect, which is just what we were after. That said, the effect comes up even less in the pics than in the flesh. Although not necessarily the plan, we've ended up quite close to the original colour, but with a deeper blue.
I can honestly say we were gobsmacked with how good this looks out in the sun, it makes the crystal topaz seem very washed out in comparison.

Just want it back on the road now cry
