The Milton Keynes Bowl

I remember going to an Ozzfest concert there about 10 years ago and it was superb - great acoustics, easy to see and lots of space for burger vans, etc.

What happened to concerts being held there? Cant find any for this year at all?

No idea, but I went to "The End of The Road" gig by Quo in 84. (Was superb)

It failed, as the following year they gave up retirement, well most of them

I saw the Foo Fighters there last year: still an awesome venue, just in the wrong location. Too far outside London and not far enough away, if you know what I mean.

I saw Bowie there in the 80s. I thought it was useless, too big. I hate stadium gigs anyway.

Swedish House Mafia played there last year. There is usually 1 gig a year although nothing has been announced for this year. I like the venue, partly because in live in Milton Keynes but also because it's stadium gig size but with a festival atmosphere.

I've lived in MK for about 7 years and I can only remember 2 concerts in that time - Bon Jovi & Robbie Williams. I don't really look out for them but you usual know when they are there.

I think it is just too big for most people, think the capacity is 65,000.

I was at that gig !

..and I hate Stadia too.

I do wonder if its more connected to promoters though. Seems like the O2 deal has tied up most big acts, with both academy venues for intimacy and the bigger venues as well.

I went t see take that there.

Errr I mean the wife took me there for a surprise and I found out later it was a take that concert. I tried to leave but I really liked it, looking at the crowd I mean not the gig. Definitely not the gig.

I saw the Foo Fighters there a couple of years back, and I thought the same. It helped that the weather was decent, but what a day! Great venue, much better than I was expecting.

Went to the Big Day Out there in 99 I think.

Superb gig.

I saw Metallica there back in '93 and thought it was a good venue, with good viewing from just about anywhere. It is very weather dependant, like any outdoor venue.

Just mentioned this thread to Mrs T7, apparently it's going to be built on, and the MK Dons have bought some of it.

MrsT7 is involved with St. John's and heard it through them.

I think it's a great venue. I love outdoor gigs. I first went there for the Ozzfest in 1998(ish) and had a great view of the stages from pretty much anywhere. I also drove down from Edinburgh a few years ago and back up again the next day, which was a bit of a killer. Just wish it was a bit further north!

This is from 2006, there was talk of increasing capacity and building a hotel. None of that has happened.
