Probably should have got round to doing this sooner, but I've been having far too much fun driving now I've passed my driving test! (first time with only 1 minor as well!)

Growing up going to car shows/events/meets with my dad, it became the norm to be exposed to Porsches, Ferraris and such like on quite a frequent basis, and safe to say it was awesome, especially being the sort of young lad that didn't cry and cover their ears when a noisy supercar fired up! But, this meant that I wanted a Porsche when I passed my test, which at this stage was probably a good 10 years into the future!

So when the day came that I realised I could change my birth date and get an online insurance quote, I realised my dreams of driving to college in a classic 911 were no more, and that I would probably have to settle for something smaller. The fact I had been eager to driver for so long was made even more painful due to the fact that I'd have to wait even longer to have something cool and sporty!!

But in July 2012 me, my dad and my mum went looking for a second hand car for my mum. Walking round the forecourt of a Ford Dealership, me and my dad spotted a Fiat Panda 100HP! After a test drive and some negotiation, it was ours!

However insurance was still astronomically expensive! Comparison sites best efforts were around the £4k mark which was obviously far too expensive, especially when you think that you could buy and insure a smaller car for that price if you looked hard enough.

I was insured on it on a provisional for a month and I really wanted to be able to drive it when I passed, I loved it. To cut a long story short, my mum managed to get a cheap quote on it for me, and here we are today, test passed and i'm driving a Fiat Panda 100HP!

What a great first car! Love these, and they look good in red.

Sounds a bit like your going down the "insurance fronting" route though................I suspect this will not go down too well on here (and quite rightly so)!

Anyway enjoy, there's nothing like passing your test and taking to the road in your first car.

It's on a Multi-car policy and although my mum is the policy holder, I am listed as the main driver in terms of who will be driving it the most, so no fronting to be seen on this thread!! wink

ETA - it was actually around £400 cheaper having as a main user rather than an occasional user as well - bizzare!!

A cracking little car and proof that you don't need huge power to make a grin-inducing fun car, albeit with a top speed limited by (lack of!) suspension rather than what the engine could deliver biggrin Sold mine a couple of years back and it won over pretty much everyone who went out in it in the 3 and a bit years I owned it...

Enjoy!

Very nice. There was an identical car at Bedford Autodrome today (unless that was you ?).

A very nice car, but I've always been on the view that it's better to start off with a shed that you can hoon around fields, woods and beaches in and not be too upset when you bump into something solid...My Dad wasn't too happy when I did it to his...

Nice motor, wanted to get one but just could not afford the £4.5k for a good example 14 months ago.

That (was) my car!

I bought it new in 2009 and racked up the first 10,000 miles in it!

Hope you enjoy - looks great in the sun!

Small world! However it does say on your profile you sold it with 5,000 miles on it?!

Nice first car, always love Fiat's after having a Punto Sporting as my first car, this is much better though!

Enjoy hooning it around, but don't become another statistic!

I thought you owned a SMART? Not a BRABUS?
