Hi folks

Can anybody recommend a decent restaurant on Wilmslow Road? I'm meeting up with some ex-colleagues and I haven't been down there for years. Ideally somewhere a bit "upmarket", decent food, and with parking close by.

Thanks in advance

None of the ones on the curry mile are any good IMO. I'd just head straight down into town and EastZEast, best curry in Manchester.

What, you've tried all of them? To add insult to injury you then recommend Eastzeast, which is alright but far from brilliant.

Can't. Meeting a bunch of women (literally) who panic (literally) at the thought of difficult city-centre parking. wink

Yep pretty much all of them as I worked just down the road for 7 years. Loads of great kebab places, I can't think of any curry from there though that I ever wanted to return to.

and you think parking in Rusholme is easier - good luck with that !!

Got to agree that Rusholme is pretty ropey for a curry these days, certainly not the place it used to be. If you want ease of parking try Vermillion near the city centre or Khandoker in Didsbury, or go into town and try Chaophraya (Thai) or Akbars.

From my uni days IIRC there's a large car park behind sheer khan (opposite Camel One)

Had a look on google maps and "mughli" appears to be in the same row.

And there are car parks in the city centre! However, the standard of driving and parking in and around Rusholme is significantly worse than the city centre.

If you want to go to Rusholme, then just go to Rusholme, but if you want to go to a good curry house that's easily accessible by car for a nervous driver, then that's the last place I'd choose.

If it's easy parking you want, would Chinese be acceptable? Can't get much easier restaurant parking than at the Glamorous Restaurant... food's far from bad too.

Lal Quila (think that's how you spell it) right in the middle of the strip, been going for years, same owners for years. Friendly staff. Admittedly it's not 5 star by any stretch but the food is good that's the main thing. Got recommended to me by my gf's Asian mate. That's my two penneth.

Personally I think Rusholme's going to be easier than City Centre, especially during rush hour. YMMV.

Restaurant needs to serve Halal food ( mainly for my benefit smile)

If I'm paying I'll be damned if I'm having sweet corn soup all night hehe

Don't a lot of restaurants do that? TBH we would normally leave 10%+ anyway so not really a problem.

Thanks. I think I went there last time. Food was good, but I seem to recall our waiter having major league BO frown

I have been to quite a few of the restaurants on the curry mile for a number of years and agree with the posters above that the standards have dropped. My favourite takeaway is Saajan Original in Fallowfield and restaurant I would go for Mughli, it's the better of the restaurants on Wilmslow Road.
