XJ220 Query - anyone help with history of a certain car ?
Discussion
Hi there,
Bit of a long shot this.
The guy I work for was pottering around the office today with a photo that he wanted scanning and enlarging. Turns out this picture was of a Jaguar XJ220 he used to own. I know he has had a few nice cars in the past including a Testarossa but did not know he'd had a 220.
The car was a light aquamarine greeny blue and he is convinced the car was sold and exported outside the UK a few years ago. When he owned it it carried the reg plate JAZ220.
I photographed a car at Silverstone back in 2009 that could be the same car (although when he owned it it had standard XJ220 wheels) as shown in this pic (not my photo, pinched from Flickr)

If not the same car then there must be more than one in this colour
It would be nice to find out a bit more about the car he used to own as he's getting on and would really make his day.
I have also posted this in the Jaguar section for obvious reasons but as I know there are plenty of Supercar owners in this section that might be able to help I have posted it here.
Regards
Tim

I saw one in this colour on the High St in Knutsford a few years back (prob 5)
I was told by a mate who knows the family, that it was owned by the Owners of Suttons haulage (they live over by Mold, near Chester)
Hi there,I was told by a mate who knows the family, that it was owned by the Owners of Suttons haulage (they live over by Mold, near Chester)
That would be the same car as the company I work for are based just outside Knutsford (not Suttons).
Thanks for remembering.

Hi Tim,
I know of two XJ220 in the UK that fit this description:
1. fits the description of the colour

2. fits the description of the plate. Unfortunately I can't find more pictures of JAZ 220 at the London meet so I can't guage if the colour is correct but it does appear to be the more 'conventional' green.

Of course it is a distinct possibility that the plates wear switched along the way. JAZ 220 is one of the more interesting UK Jaguar XJ220 out there as it has a 4.0l and not a 3.6l! This leads me to believe that it is the UK car that has been fitted with a V12, but I can't back that up.
HTH
P.s. I believe that colour is unique on the first XJ220.

Hi there,
Many thanks guys for all the replies.I knew this place would get some answers.
I think the car was orginally on JAZ220 and then exported out of the UK at which time it will have lost the plate. Then it looks like it might have come back to the UK at which time it picked up the 'K' reg plate shown above.
I think School Garage might have handled it at some point as it seems to be on their website here: -
http://www.classiccarshop.co.uk/classic_jaguar.htm although I cannot enlarge the picture.
A link on the XJ220 register for the plate JAZ220 brings this up: -
http://www.xj220data.com/cars/detail/?car=SAJJEAEX...
Although I am not sure if this record is for the darker green car that seems to be currently wearing JAZ220. The car in this link on the XJ220 register was built in November 1993 so would wear an 'L' plate rather than 'K'
Searching the XJ220 register for K435FNT brings up this: -
http://www.xj220data.com/cars/detail/?car=SAJJEAEX...
Where the car is given as 'Black' although at least the build date fits with a 'K'
Next a search on Autogespot brings up this: -
http://www.autogespot.co.uk/jaguar-xj220/2010/03/2...
where the car is clearly Blue not Black. Confusing.
Also looks like the aqua green/blue car has passed through Don Law's hands at some point.

The search for information is ongoing.

Hi there,http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/2354...
Many thanks, think I perhaps have an original copy of this magazine at home, will try and dig it out for him.

I own JAZ 220. I bought the car from School Garage about 8 or 9 years ago. Was owned a guy who imported champagne. I don't want to use his name on here. Don Law looks after the car for me. I had it repainted and retrimmed by Don. The colour is the original Aston Martin Emerald Green, the trim was olive and is now magnolia. Car was originally supplied to HRH in Brueni. Built 1993. Not sure if that helps.

Hi there,Many thanks, thats the answer I was looking for. The guy who imported Champagne is my boss

So it appears after taking another look today the picture he has of the car is the one taken outside of School Garage when he put it up for sale.

In the photo he has the car appears to be the colour of the K435FNT shown above, but I suspect this is not the case. I think the photo may have faded and is actually the Aston Martin Emerald Green.
The car carries the plate JAZ220 in the advert and now you have come forward the story has been pieced together.
Thanks so much to everyone for the help and especially to F16 TomCat for posting, any chance the car might be on display at an event soon ? I would love to take some up to date pics of it for him. Would look great on his new office wall.
Regards
Tim

That is awesome! Do you mind explaining the 4.0l engine? Is it actually a V12 or just registered wrongly?Tim,
The car is currently in storage. I did promise T that I would give him an update. Happy to let you know when it will be out and about, probably next spring I would think. I might be nice if we could get T and the car together....... leave it with me.
As far as the engine is concerned, it's a 3.6 ltr, but the colour is unique on the 220 as far as I know. I used to own a collection of Aston Martin's in the same colour so when I saw the car I had to have it.

That is superb, I am sure 'T' would love to be reunited with the car even just for old times sake.
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
