Hello there fellow M owners!

I have a E60 M5 that was Ordered from Germany (I'm ex forces) in UK spec and I was wondering if being a German Vehicle will it be limited to 155? Like all UK vehicles.

I ask this as i attend many track days and top speed events in various vehicles and always hit the limiter @155-160 with plenty of rpm's left to play with.
Does anyone know if it will be limited? Or will I have to take a trip to the chaps at DMS for a software update (and a remap while I'm there) haha :-)

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Think you are going to find that its limited regardless of country of origin.

Still, a trip to DMS to unleash its top end (and a bit of power if you so wish) sounds like fun...

Do 155mph in 6th gear and then change into 7th gear. It over-rides the limiter and you have another 15-20mph to play with.

To get to the 200mph mark though you need a complete removal of the limiter electronically.

Thanks for the prompt reply guys!

The trick you mentioned with the gearing has never really worked for me. I've attended a couple of Vmax200 events, firstly in a E46 M3 and then recently in my 996 911 and still "only" reached a terminal speed of 160mph :-(

I'm going to call DMS later on today and book her in for some work ;-)

Will a remap invalidate my extended BMW Mondial Warranty?

I suspect a remap would invalidate certain repairs on your mondial warranty. Anything that went wrong with the engine would probably be rejected as being caused by the remap.

I managed to reach 175 mph in 6th gear in mine-i was so busy concentrating on keeping it in a straight line that i thought it had hit the limiter but in fact it was just revved out and i still had another gear! That M5 was ordered by Mark Blundell from new and as an ex F1 driver i'm assuming they took the limiters off for him in the factory? It certainly went well....

I hit 176 in the M6 in 6th but changing to 7th would not work as for some reason it is limited in 7th gear only!

Fairly certain the E61's are limited to 176 for some reason? I have memories of clarkson hitting that in the test vs the AMG estate..

Contigo and Batmanreturns,

I take it that you both attended Brunters to obtain your speeds then?
Which events did you go? Mine were Vmax200 and VmaxBlack. I remember an M6 and M5 back at Vmax200.
I believe the M5 had Evolve plates on and hit 190? Think it had many mods though including Headers & remap?
I may have spoken to you both on the day, great event. A must for every petrol head with a fast toy! Lol

Drifting onto another subject here, but I've just had a quote for Mondial Warranty at £105 p/m Fully Comp with £100 excess.
Is this good?
I may need to start another thread lol.

£105 / month is what I pay for my 2006 E60 M5 with 32,000 miles on it. Fully comp cover with £100 excess.

55,000 miles on mine.
It does sound a lot of money especially as I will only use the car at weekends but its peace of mind I suppose, there's many expensive parts to go wrong :-(
