I've also used and would recommend.

http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday/

and particularly like,

http://opentrack.co.uk/

At opentrack events nibbles, drinks, photography and (if you're early enough) garages are free. smile

Goldtrack are my personal favorite given the reduced numbers on track and the quality machines they seem to attract.

I'd only use Javelin if you are experienced, last day I went on with them was a race car free for all at Silverstone - lots of would be racing drivers in race prepared cars being rubbish drivers as well as basically racing - blocking, trying to prevent over takes, attempting to out brake and over take I to corners etc. Nothing was done about it all day, once I'd got used to the idea of effectively no rules it was great fun but it would have put a newbie off for life.

Agree with Open track, they are very well organised.

In fact agree so much i'm just about to leave for an evening trackday with them at Brands.

Also in addition to nibbles, drinks, photography, garages, there is always an instructor available, again if you're early.

Depends what you mean by the word "best" :-)

Do you mean best price? best safety record? best customer service? best selection of venues/dates? best terms and conditions if you have to cancel? best support on the day in terms of staff experience and quantity?

Unfortunately, there is no single/central database for storing such information so comparing TDO's is always going to be difficult. Essentially though, as with any product/service, you can make a crude assessment based on price - if something is cheaper it is generally of lower quality but not necessarily lower value for money. The market will generally not permit businesses to defy this rule of thumb. Kia isn't as good as a BMW. Ryanair isn't as good as British Airways, McDonalds isn't as good as a Michelin star restaurant but each offer value for money at their own "level" in the market.

Whether you place any value of the additional cost of a BMW/British Airways flight/Michelin-star meal is up to the individual. We regularly get berated for charging up to twice the price of some of our competitors - often being asked "how we can justify that level of profiteering". If we're charging twice the price it's because there's half as many cars on the track, it's got nothing to do with profit.

Just my 2p worth!

For me good service and a smile makes me happy. Too many grumpy people around.

I had very plaisant times with Gold Track with Melindi and her staff as much as i had with Colin and his staff at Javelin. Both different ways of running events but for a lot of drivers lower prices allows them to do track days too. What annoys me is bad attitudes , ie poor service.
The rest you can have good and bad drivers in any of track days.

So this year for me thumbs up for Gold Track and Javelin. Doing few more days this year with others, will tell you if they are happy people smile

Most trackdays are only as good as the drivers participating. The operators can really only be judged on if something goes wrong in one way or another. You do get what you pay for but I always look at Javelin first. Used them quite a few times and they do the tracks that I use mostly and seem to be very competitive and friendly.

Cheers for the replies...

Looking at Rockingham, Donny, Silverstone and maybe Castle Doom if anyone's got feedback on these ? 'been round them all on a bike myself but not in a car, basically it's for a mate's birthday so would be looking at buying credit/vouchers if possible as a gift for them to redeem at a later date.
Car is a pretty much standard R32 GTS and it'd be his first track day.

I think I'm right in saying we (BookaTrack.com) are the only TDO to organise events at all 4 of those circuits, so if you wanted a gift voucher to be redeemed against any of them, we're a good bet :-)

Otherwise, BHP Trackdays do a lot at Combe, Goldtrack do a lot at Silverstone, and Rockingham themselves for track days there.

BaT organise more events at Donington Park than anyone else (30+ per year).

my vote is split between BAT and Javelin, different in what they offer but both great.

This. Once you're there and past the briefing the day is run by the circuit and their marshals, to be honest I don't see any real variance in the day from one TDO to the next. Easytrack/Autotrack used to claim they were a "premium" TDO and singularly the worst driving standards I've ever seen were on one of their days.

Maybe its because I've only done Javelin trackdays on aerodromes (Blyton Park - great circuit and Barkston Heath - awful) rather than proper circuits but my experience has been pretty much the opposite and Im def a novice. Have now been 4 times with Javelin and had great time each time. Would recommend Javelin.

It was a couple of years ago, things may well have changed since then.

Jonny (BaT) does the funniest briefings, Dave (opentrack) offers the most doughnuts, Melindi (Goldtrack) has the biggest sweetie tin. These are my three recommendations!

I use bookatrack/javelin/circuit days/opentrack and msv.

To pick a "best" is hard, but id have to choose bookatrack.

Quick briefings (could be quicker;)) and quite funny
Leave you alone all day
You pay more sometimes but less cars and no queueing up
Calendar is always full of days to choose from (only shame is they are not at oulton park as often as id like)

Only trackday company ive had problems with in 8 years is focused events as they changed car days to bike days and changed the calendar whenever they felt like it.

Agreed with Phil, royally p#ssed me off as me and a friend did loads of Focused Events days in 2010 so decided to save some money and buy package deals with them for 2011. They then cancelled just about all their Car track dates and left us with a handful of dates at maybe 2 or 3 tracks to chose from. Very annoying.

I really rate Javelin, friendly staff and seem to be much cheaper than other organizers.

If you are heading to Blyton, Castle Combe you can't forget Apex track days for free passenger and extra driver within the cost of the day. Again the owner of Apex is a great guy.

Javelin just seem to have the best prices, amount of track days and variety of circuits within their calendar.

I always book mid week days to keep costs down and they are always quieter.
