Stopped the car earlier and switched off the engine.

Back to the car 10 minutes later and tried to start it. Clicking noise when starting and engine didn't turn.

Tried again repeatedly and no joy at all.

Left it for around half an hour and car will now start with an flashing F on the display. After moving the selector from Neutral to Drive and trying to move forward the F is still on the display. Obviously means there's a fault.

Might actually be Easytronic Gearbox thing.

Any ideas on the cause?
Costs to fix?
Worth fixing?

Check your brake lights. If both bulbs go they do this.

Many thanks. I'll try tomorrow when I go and have a look as it's been dumped locally!

The selector/actuator fails if the fluid isn't changed, can be expensive and can knacker the clutch also. There are also two sensors that can fail too. Needs to be plugged into a Tech2 and have the trouble codes read.

F = fked....not really very helpful of Vauxhall, could have at least made a better explanation of it...

It's not the lights.

Getting the car uplifted on Monday for diagnosis, fixing and then getting shot of it.

Throttle body went twice and now this. Enough is enough!

Inherited from a relative who had it from new. Was in their garage for about 4 years unused due to illness.

Had it since 2009.

Local Vauxhall Garage / Dealership said there isn't a sensor and that it'll be the computer. Couldn't give me a price either as the parts guy wasn't around.

What he said ^^^^^^^^

Stick a £20 crank sensor on it before vauxhall bum you for hundreds.

Takes ten minutes to fit, one bolt and one multiplug. It's down the back of the engine just above the sump next to the gearbox. I do on average a couple of these a month.

There's no reason why a crank sensor would spontaneously stop a car from even turning over and despite being part of the engine control system would be the cause of a transmission warning light.

Best clue was in the OP's reply that the local agent had condemned the gearbox controller.
