Discussion
As in the title, I'm going to look and more than likely buy a whyte t129 (not s). Can find lots of reviews for the s version but non for the lower spec version but apart from the reverb post which I wouldn't miss I'm not sure what I would gain. Combined with a sale price £700 cheaper for the non s.
Just thought I'd rely on you guys to tell me if I'm making a mistake or if it is as good a bike as the s bar a few tricked up components. From what I can tell its the same frame, forks, and shock.
Any help greatly appreciated and promise to post pics if your nice

Simple. The s is a better spec and has a reverb. It's only £200 more. It's a no brainier. If you get the 129 you'll end up getting a dropper post of one sort sooner or later. Might as well get it now and be done with it on the S.
The s is also trail bike of the year 2013.
If you get the 129 people will say ' oooh is that the trail bike of the year bike - the 129s?' and youll have to say 'no it's not'. They will then sigh and walk away from you shaking their heads. You will go home to find your house burnt down and your girlfriend left you and your car on bricks. All because you bought the wrong bike. Think about it...I'm right aren't I? But you knew that all along which is why you posted in the first place.

You are right and if the price difference was only £200 I would get the s as coukd sell the dropper post to make up nearly all the difference and end up with better spec for almost free.
But I have found a 129 for less than £1500 where as I can't find the 129s for less than £2k so bigger price difference. Just want to make sure that the frame, the forks and the shock are the same as anything else can be replaced when I break components.

I see the man maths is strong with you
I understand it is £1999 but figured easier to say £2k at least I didnt get picked up for the grammer!
So can anyone confirm that major components are the same ie frame and shock would prefer to save £500 as have an exensive month coming up next month.

Sounds to me like you can afford a 129 works.
Whatever you end up getting it'll be great. We're all overbiked on here anyway (you could be a tiny bit more overbiked though if you grew some
)
Funny things happen when you go into bike shops. You neve know what you're going to come out with. I went in one day to buy a brake disc and came out with a yeti 575 XT. Didnt declare it to the Fun Prevention Officer for over a week mind...

No is the short answer.
Went to have a look at it and it was very nice but I could feel my eyes wandering whilst talking to then sales guy, experience tells me that this is not a good thing and that I would soon be looking at something else, so didn't buy it.
Luckily I don't live too far away from another bike shop so managed to pre order one of these instead!!

Was very close call between this and the orange five in black/gold but I love my now very old chameleon so the Santa Cruz won. Really looking forward to picking it up.
Thanks for the advice if anyone wants a bargain then he James have theb129 up for £1399 which seems a cracking price.
Damn that budget creep can't even hide it from the wife as she was there

great bike. a friend of mine bought a tallboy LTc recently. Awesome bike and piece of kit. You have done well there!!! Congrats on a magnificent purchase.
edited to note the D has the reverb as well... I'd like to think I have been an influencer in that matter...

Haha, I know the exact feeling!
I was also looking at a T129-S thinking 2k was my absolute upper limit, so I went up to Leisure Lakes in Bury for a look, and they told me they'd sold out of 2013 models and weren't expecting 2014's in for a while.....
Anyway, I ended up ordering one of these instead! -
