Last time I met Rob (griffinr) he showed me a snazzy little boot light he'd fitted...
This is my version of it,
LED strip light from Ebay, for the grand sum of £1.99 inc postage! clicky
It's self adhesive so stuck it to a strip of stainless steel then a length of Velcro on the other side and it sticks to the boot carpet.

Mercury switch and a pipe clip to hold it found in my "box of bits"

and this is it, total darkness, no flash

Having the battery in the boot did help make the wiring a "piece of cake"

Nice work. Now I need to google mercury switch
You're obviously too young to remember flicking little balls of Mercury (highly poisonous I believe) across the benches in the science lab at school!

how on earth do you get the roof in with so much in there?
A goes on top of the petrol can (spare plugs, leads, bulbs etc.)B goes back in above the roof panels (tools, duct tape, cable ties etc.)
C is the battery
D stays where it is ( First Aid kit, screen cleaner various cloths rags etc.)
E stays where it is (jump cables, tow rope)
.....and still room to spare

Ahh. Good old wikipedia. So that's what a mercury switch is. Another job to sort out, although I'm pretty chuffed with my velcro'd-in-position little torch whenever I remember to put it back in position.
You could fit a mercury switch to the torch and velcro it to the boot lid carpet!Rob.
