Further to the earlier thread on this http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... well having done the research and the maths I went ahead and ordered one of their custom made paddle shift steering wheels for my 996 turbo, from DCT Motorsports based in Santa Clara, California. Wheel is black with silver stitching to match alloy pack.
Had the wheel delivered to Florida, as I was going over there on holiday, brought back to the UK on Monday and had it fitted locally same day!
Although it's a relatively expensive option, IMO it's a quality piece of kit. Having test driven this week gear change is excellent, looks the DB's and is what Porsche should have put on the tip in the first place, instead of the wheel with the buttons!
For anyone who's interested there's a long thread put up by DCT Motorsports on 6Speedonline see http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-vendo...
with full details/costs etc.
Here's some pics and for anyone who's interested please feel free to post any questions, pm me, or contact Ivan at DCTM direct.

Quick question, does it obscure the top of the dials and if not how tall are you? Bit personal I know but I've found that with the smaller wheels they are fine if unless you are tall.

Others have found that it doesn't obscure the top of the dials but too be honest I found that it does slightly even though I'm only 5'8" and I have got the seat on lowest setting!

I think it will for me then as I have the seat right down and I'n a bit taller. But it might be a compromise worth making. Not sure I look at the revs that much anyhow. Nice looking wheel and I'm keen as they do it in grey whereas all the other aftermarket paddle wheels are black only. Just reading the threads - do you keep and reuse your existing air bag cover?

Yes, use existing air bag, only the steering wheel needs changing!

Bebs,
All the details you will need, contact, price etc. can be found in the following link

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-vendo...

I would recommend you have a read, (bit lengthy I know), if you are considering this option.

Price for tiptronic paddle shift wheel $1,250 + shipping to UK $79, but I had mine shipped to an address in Florida (shipping $19) and brought it back with me on my last visit to US.

The paddles are quite close to the stalks but they don't interfere with each other. I've been driving with the wheel for 2 months now without any problems and without catching the stalks when changing gear and vice versa!

Firstly what a great idea cool

But the reason for the post is that the stalk is adjustable fore-aft should it interfere.

Enjoy.
