Alright. Basically around 2 weeks ago I sold my seat leon cupra 1.8t 20v turbo. (it only worth around £500-700) 3 foreign men turned up with a car transporter and (as always) knocked me down abit on the price.

But this is my concern, it was all abit rushed, he said he is a trader and tomorrow he would be ripping the engine and turbo out and scrapping the shell, so he needs the whole logbook. He just needed me to sign to the top right hand yellow slip and the bottom left hand bit (can't remember what they were now and don't have a logbook in front of me at the moment) I signed both these bits he paid me and took the car.

Out of curiousty I just checked and the car is showing as SORN (which i'm pretty sure I didn't do) fair enough, he may have sorned it so I don't get a fine or anything. But the vehicle is also showing as insured which it shouldn't be as I changed the vehicle in question over to other car.

At the end of the day I've been paid But I guess he could run up speeding tickets and fines and I would get them. I wish I had more time to think about what I was doing as I say it was all abit rushed.

What does PH think? Sound dodgey or legit at all? Would a trader do this?

Write to the DVLA saying you've sold the car, sent in the green slip but still haven't heard anything back from them.

Might just do the trick.

edit- other way around, sent the V5, and gave them the green slip.

You should have filled in the yellow part of the V55 with his details and VAT number and sent it off to DVLA yourself. If you didn't and he hasn't you are liable to all the fines incured. You need to contact the DVLA and ask them how you get out of it. Not having his name or details might give you a load of bother.

I can't remember if I gave the whole log book away when I scrapped my old car...?
For peace of mind maybe contact the DVLA and inform them of the transaction.

He was more like a 'trading from home' trader. Abit dodgy to be honest. Hmm, I'm not sure what to do. If i contact the DVLA and tell them the truth, they could say its my fault and do nothing about it. Ugh frown I really really don't need this now with my current financial situation

Thanks for posting that. From the looks of it it kind of looks legit reading the yellow section 8. Bit worried about section 7 though as there are no changes to the car. Maybe he has a stolen one and is using its identity or something? I dunno :\

As long as you signed and dated everything you wont have a problem. I owned a fiesta once that i bought for £50, it lasted me a year then i decided to sell. My mum sold it for me as i was away at the time. Two weeks later speeding fines arrive through the door. Had to phone DVLA to explain which they fully understood as it had been signed and dated. Also the fact that it is SORN is a good thing as he has probably cashed in your tax disc for extra money....

When I sold my V70, we had signed & dated all the right bits of the form, but I accidently left it in the service book & buyer took it. I also had no record of the buyers address only his name. I phoned DVLA & they told me to write to them saying just that & telling them the date I sold it. A week later I got the confirmation slip to say it was no longer belonging to me. My advice phone DVLA & tell them, see what they say.
