Green car - superstitious?
Discussion
Back in the early '70's I had a green Mk1 Cortina, and the flywheel sheared off at about 65mph in third going downhill... It frightened the bejesus out of me and I thought I was going to die
I've never had another green car since, for the same reason (I think) that I won't walk under a ladder if I can walk round it..
Recently I've seen one or two motors in green (for sale) that looked stunning, but I just can't get over this superstition/fear whatever it is that I have for green cars. Does anyone else suffer from this kind of thing? Is there a cure???

Many years ago my mum ordered me not to buy a particular car because it was dark green and 'dark green cars are bad luck'. I have no idea where this particular superstition comes from.
I did buy an old dark green Italian car a bit later which fell apart and gushed oil even after being fixed twice, now that was bad luck...

I've heard that green cars are bad luck too. For some reason green has never appealed to me, so there's no danger of me ever owning anything green therefore I have no first hand experience. However, a very decent bloke I knew had a green car and had awful bad luck in his marriage and then in his business. As far as I'm aware he never had any issues with the car itself though.
My misses is the supertious one in our household, so no green cars, so I bought her one, it was bad luck, she crashed it in to a stationary macdonalds. Also told she hated silver cars and wouldnt drive one ,so the next car I bought for her was silver and the one after as well. For context she also solluts single magpies, Mad the lot of them.

The Bentley Boys never seemed to have any trouble with the colour green.
I owned a 7 year old green Renault 5 GTL when I was 18. Engine mounts broke, diffs went, engine over heated, rear quarter windows fell out and the repairs nearly bankrupt me. Oh and coppers caught me and my girlfriend shagging in a lay by.
I also had a brand new green MK5 Escort company car. Clutch lunched after 20K miles and someone drove into it whilst parked.
Obviously this was all, as my mother explained at the time, down to bad luck because they were green cars. Nothing to do with having a s
te French car and me razzing the arse of the Escort and a drunk clipping my car.

Never heard of green cars being unlucky before, had a green '96 Rover 214SEi with 118,000 miles on the clock, a tad underpowered perhaps but nothing went wrong with it, no rust, no idiot magnet attached and had the cleanest oil and engine of any car I have ever owned. If it was in the state that I sold it on in I'd have it back in a heart beat, loved it.
