Anniversary Sub
Discussion
Hi,
I'm interested in one of these as a present from myself to myself. After a fairly tough year health wise, I've got permission to spunk a few quid on something I want.
My first question is , are these models seen as a bit of a "gimmick" by dealers?. They don't seem to make a huge (if any) premium over regular subs, where I'd have thought a limited Anniversary run might have commanded a few quid more.
Personally I like the colour scheme, maybe not to everyone's taste though. Are these models likely to increase in value and perhaps become more collectable over the long term? (I'm not looking to sell it on anyway, it's a personal purchase , and that question is somewhat speculative I know).
Lastly, when the time comes I will of course be knocking on the door of the "Usual Suspects" listed here. Box, Papers and Service are essential I know, but a Service from a non (but reputable )Rolex AD wouldn't have any detrimental effect on overall value, would it?.

I don't think the watch could be described as limited as they sold loads of them & not in any limited numbers as far as I know. They are more of an acquired taste then the black face classic sub so may be harder to sell then the original. I know they are described by some dealers as limited collectors pieces but they not. Also depends if you will be wearing the watch as most collectors would go for the best unworn watch as such a new model.
Thanks for the replies, Tino, that looks great, exactly the model I'm interested in with the engraved rehaut. I'll be wearing it fairly regularly , so when it comes to the time I'll be seeking the best one I can find condition wise. I'm leaving myself a wide spectrum on the budget, anything between 4 and 5 k should hopefully give me the some choice.

Yeah go for it Tex you won't regret it.
The engraved rehaut mk2 models certainly command a premium.
I got offered £4500 cash yesterday from the dealer who authenticated mine so they do hold their value reasonably well.
Watchfinder have two engraved models at £5750 both boxed and papers.

Perhaps you could do a deal with them.
Best of luck

best sub by miles I also went for the ingraved model as that would be the shortest run and the smallest numbers made.
You might be paying over 5k though for a unpolished mint one with box and papers.
So 1k over the same year normal one.

mine is a very very clean example far better than ones I have seen in London for over 6k

Thats a lovely Sub - I particularly like the contrast between the black face and green bezel.

Been after a nice example for a while trying to trade in my limited edition Omega Seamaster Pro - I may have found one, but the trade-in on my Seamaster is very low.

what's make it non oem !you get used to the Cyclops is goes with the watch, imo it only looks out of place on the new larger ceramic models
new design watch old design cylops
the best new Rolex Sub imo is the non date, it looks right. the others not so much.

I agree, that's why, now that my aging eyes struggle with seeing the date (even with the cyclops) I'm toying with chopping in my end of the line, random serial 16610 Sub for a Ceramic non-date, as I don't need the date and the larger case and maxi dial means I can see the time easier.yeti said:

That should destroy the future value nicely
That's like suggesting that a car that's had a bit of paintwork done has a destroyed future value.
Oh, and it's my watch, not some other 'next owner' that may or may not ever happen - it's more likely to be inherited by someone than sold by me...and if they're going to sell it anyway, then f
k them!!

Yeah, if you painted one door a different colour to the rest of the car, because f
k everyone, it's your car. Yeah! >high five<Actually, it's like suggesting you try and sell your car with missing headlights or no windscreen. Even though it could be put back to normal 'for not much money', people will buy the one that has the headlights or windscreen. Your paintwork analogy works better if, say, you replaced a scratched bezel with a new one. Fine, it looks standard.
It's like brushing the polished centre links on a Daytona or GMT Master. Looks are subjective and maybe that's nicer, but even though it's just a cosmetic change, it's no longer original and would be a tougher sell on if circumstances changed. IMHO, naturally.

That is potentially true as it is...but if I wanted to sell due to a change in circumstances, I'd just get it popped back on......same would be true if my eyesight deteriorates massively also

I picked up this mint unworn 2003 'Flat 4' recently, which I love. When in a main dealer last week picking up Miss Moneypenny an Oyster Perpetual Datejust II, I enquired what they would value it at and they came in at more than I had paid, which was interesting as I feel I paid top dollar. Now just needs a GMT 'Pepsi' to go with it; the hunt is on!
