Why are soft drinks so expensive in pubs. I usually drive when a group of us go t'pub, a draft diet coke or lemonade is £2.65p. A pint of larger or Guinness £3.35. I know which I would prefer, but I'm driving,

Public houses by the way, not PH.

Because they can charge what they want. There are plenty of people that don't or can't drink and if you're with friends in a pub there isn't much alternative.

I watched the football in a Walkabout pub yesterday.
Had a pint or 2 of blackcurrent and water for 40p a pint smile
As designated driver, mates paid for them smile
Basically a free afternoon out!

I always go for a pint of black currant or lime and soda as I find them less sickly than most other options and often less than £1!

Crazy money when you consider how cheap they must be out of the squirty nozzle, but publicans claim to be making something like 10-15p/pint on beer so they've got to make a profit somewhere I suppose.

Used to go to a pub years ago that was only really accessible by car, they used to do a deal that if you bought 3 alcoholic drinks you got a free soft drink for your driver. Great idea. If 3 of us went it worked out cheaper to buy the barmaid a half than to just buy our own drinks biggrin

Years ago Walkabout had a "free soft drinks for designated drivers" promotion. You left your car keys behind the bar and they supplied you with as much coke/lemonade/cordial as you could stomach.

Because they can. Drivers and youngsters won't buy the beer smile

You think £2.65 is bad? I went to a pub the other week that charged £3.40 for a pint of Coke.

Pint of beer was £3.70!

Country pub only accessible by car as well..

Obscene.

I heard/read some where that carbonated drinks in fast food restaurants cost the outlet something like 2-3p per cup!
Even if you pay £1 for a coke from Mcdonalds thats a decent markup, but once youve calculated OH costs theres probably little profit involved!
I always have Lime and Soda usually about 50p a pint!

What's 'foreign' for decimal point? Is it referred to as a decimal comma (in the local lingo)?

Hah yeah i was just thinking if £3/pint is expensive try paying €3.50 for 250ml in a little glass bottle on the continent where there is no concept of a draught pint.

There's even bigger a dilemma here, a half litre of beer in a bar is about 58p but a tiny 250ml bottle of coke or something is about £1.10. Even a bottle of mineral water is more expensive than beer, so it's very difficult to abstain! Luckily taxis are cheap!!

Draught cke in the pub I work in, in the west end of Edinburgh is £3 a pint. You dont even get a pint of juice because the glass is half full of ice and fruit anyway. Its one of the biggest scams going.

It's not a scam...

How much is a pint of coke?
£3
Ok thanks.

I sell @ £1.80 a pint which I think is very fair..Soft drinks aren't a big mover for us so I don't really monitor it. Mainly a mixer splash.
