The rear tyres on my 07 Seat Leon FR have sawtoothed as they say.

I changed them around today, I would say the outer edge and inner edge difference in tread depth is 2mm. They have been on for 15k.

It's the noise that was really drawing my attention to the problem, around 65mph it does make a whine/drone noise.

I have seen plenty of reports on this through the whole VAG range. Will rear wheel alignment stop this from happening?

Alignment should solve the problem. My A3 scrubbed the inside edges of it's front tyres from new in a couple of thousand miles, with plenty of tread left everywhere else.

Dealer did the alignment (wouldn't replace the tyres though) and it was fine afterwards until I ran over a Badger and the same happened again.

I think they're very sensitive to alignment and I now have it checked/set at every tyre change.

Had the same problem on my Leon, laser alignment seemed to fix it.

Ah hah! I have the same problem, but at about 45-55mph.

Does the wheel alignment need to be corrected to something that is different to the standard alignment or just turn up to a garage and say go align the rear wheels?

They should have a machine which tells them how far out the alignment is from what it should be. I also got the tracking done at the same time as the car had an annoying steering wheel vibration at high speed.

Any ideas of the cost to do the alignment? Just so I know I'm not getting screwed.

I had the same problem on my Mk5 Golf. They threw in alignment for an extra £20 on top of two new tyres but prices vary massively depending where you live and what kit they use.

No problems since and the car is so much quieter.

p.s. It was only done a few thousand miles ago so I have to wait to see if it returns but the cars handling seems better and the alignment before was miles out.

Last time I had it done, it cost me £50 for all 4 wheels or £25 per 'axle' if you only did the 2.

I paid £70 inc VAT for all 4 but it can be had cheaper. That was for Hunter. My Leon exhibited exactly the same problem before I had my tyres changed.

Just rang up F1 Autocentres (Leicester) and they have said £66, which seems a little high, but they have a Hunter machine.

Had the wheels tracked with a hunter machine.

I still find the rear tyres are warm on the inner compared to the 3/4 of the tyre is cool

Do they look good now?

Thank you.

Not sure why they have added more rear camber?

Just dug my sheet out, looks like it was just front and rear toe that was out.

Thats for a Mk5 Golf GTi - not sure there is any adjustment for the rear camber on these cars?

Looking at your rear camber looks spot on!

They seem to if added more camber in now, to make the problem worse.

But it still shows it in the manufacturers tolerance.

They should return it to spec.... Not just within tolerance.

The mk5 does allow for rear camber adjustment (the front is. It camber adjustable)

Will ring them tomorrow, they should adjust this free of charge seeing as they haven't done it correctly?
