Following on from my Tickford Capri thread, another car that Tickford were involved in, the Cavalier Calibre.

Sadly the engine was left in standard form, but the bodywork is just as boxy as the Capri. Again a very Marmite car. Just soo 80s!

According to the link there's only 5 left on the road.

Any of them PHers?

If I recall it was a Sri 130 engine, so not the run of the mill cavalier lump.

I was talking to someone the other day about how a 130bhp in a family saloon weighing perhaps 1200KG (+300KG of passengers and luggage) used to be dead impressive, in the context of a discussion about exactly these cars! I was cursing some miserable diesel Skoda we have in the fleet at work for being a snail when I realised it had similar performance stats to the Cavalier SRi models I used to dream of one day owning.

Cavalier Calibre, bit of a parts-bin special for the run out Mk2. Dad had a Mk3 SRi from new - 130bhp seemed impressive at the time! I remember being very disappointed that he didn't get a Cartlon GSi frown

My next door neighbour has one, not currently on the road, but it is a TurboTechnics conversion...runs perfectly, but is awaiting some restoration of the suspension and brakes.

It's red, just like the ones in the picture!

I always quite liked the MK2 Cavalier, not keen on that kit though. I always remember them seeming pretty quick for the engine size, my boss had a GLSi model which was pretty much the same as an SRI performance wise and used to love driving that, the gearchange always seemed a bit rubbery though, his was a really crappy red colour.

Anyone remember the "Commander" model

The Mk2 Cav had a second lease of commerical life a year or two after it was launched, or so it seemed. It'd be interesting (well, not strictly interesting maybe) to see how the sales figures stacked up month on month. It had a slow start and then there seemed to be market saturation. A bit like Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.

A mate had a very rare 1.6SR Saloon in metallic bronze. Had great Recaro interior.

Like this but with a different grill I seem to remember:
