I placed an order for 4 items with Amazon last Thursday. 3 of these are direct from Amazon and one from a 3rd party. The item from the 3rd party has been dispatched and delivered, but almost a week on, none of the 3 Amazon items have even been dispatched.

Now, you might be thinking something along the lines of 'what do you expect from a "free" service' and I get that, but their turnaround times have definitely deteriorated recently. I guess this is a deliberate ploy to tempt more people into the faster paid for delivery options? Anyone else noticed the same?

Same for me unfortunately.

Worse is the fact you can't enquire "where's my stuff?" on the Amazon direct ones either!

The third party sellers sometimes mark as dispatched quickly but I don't think they actually have at times.

If you simplify it and look at the premium delivery (paid for) and the super saver, it runs approximately like this:

Premium - Items get loaded daily (or multiple times in a day) into smaller lorries/vans and go off to the local hubs and on for delivery - ergo, speedy quick service.

Super saver - they have massive artic lorries which they fill up at the depots. You might be lucky and have the last item loaded onto the lorry and have it delivered very quickly, or it might be the first on and take a few days before the lorry is dispatched.

To put it into context, I have used super saver a few times lately and sometimes it takes me a week to get the items and sometimes I even have them within 24-48hrs.

Amazon are definitely delaying package sending when you select free delivery

Used to be the case that you could almost rely on a 2/3 day service with Super Saver Delivery, now if they dispatch it before the day before the estimated delivery it's a rarity...

Frustrating, but I've voted with the wallet, order most things on Ebay now, "fast and free" delivery has meant just that so far for me...

That would make sense if the stuff was being marked as dispatched and then taking ages to arrive, but what I'm seeing is stuff not even being marked as dispatched for a week or so after ordering. I'm assuming here that stuff is marked as "dispatched" when it's picked/packed, not when the lorry actually leaves the warehouse.

Its been like this for the last 12 months I would say, I put a couple of orders a month in.

They don't even pick the items for 1 day - then, if your item is picked in the morning you might get onto a delivery van that night, if not its the next day.
I personally think they are using any empty space on their trucks - so if they have an artic that will take say 30 cages and once they get all the next day out of the way they still have 5 artics sitting there they use the empty space - if not you wait till the next day.

I still use the super saver because its free and I am generally in no rush for the goods - its usually 3 full working days for delivery where I am.

Usually isn't too bad for me but ordered a new mobile the other week and it was 'preparing for despatch' for over a week. Cancelled and got it next day elsewhere for the same price

I ordered some of those Britta water filters from Amazon in the last week. Ordered at 11am. Had a dispatched email at 4pm. Got a 'Sorry we missed you' from Royal Mail in the next two days and it was about £3 cheaper from them than elsewhere.

I've never had an issue with postage from them for the last few years.

For me, Super Saver meant 2-3 days max, it's now 3-4 days pretty reliabily. I've only had 1 or 2 outlyers that have taken a week. Pretty variable experiences!

Same here, used to order most of my stuff from amazon but in the last 12 months started using Ebay more.

I placed an order late Thursday 9th, with Amazon direct, and some market place bits, both arrived on Monday.
