Turbo Pickers (Wheeler Dealer type program)
Discussion
Has anyone else been watching this? I saw the first one which was OK. The mechanic's wild eyed intensity was a tad annoying though. It's another Wheeler Dealer type program. There's a taster here.
The next one's on Monday at 9pm on Discovery. Here's the blurb from their site:
In new series Turbo Pickers, car expert Paul Cowland and star mechanic Dave Southall turn supposedly knackered, over-rusted vehicles and unwanted machine parts into tidy little earners. Paul and Dave are "turbo pickers" - hunters of rare and collectible cars, auto parts, and a bizarre range of unusual machinery to be flipped for a profit. The business partners scour the UK for items they can bring back to their London-based workshop for their unique style of refurbishment.

The very same Paul Cowland..

I think the programme is very good - I like the little nuggets of trivia.

Quite like this show… the presenters (especially the mechanic bloke) really got on my nerves when I first started watching. But both they, and the show, have grown on me if I'm honest.
The garage in Nottingham they were buying stuff on the H Van episode is where I take my car for its MOT… proper old school garage that deals with a lot of classics.
It's a shame they don't have the bloody great oil-covered Irish Wolfhound strategically placed to cause maximum inconvenience to both staff and customers any more, but I guess you can't have everything.

I'm getting into it.
Really liked the Jag XJS/R project - great idea.
Also as mentioned above - it's the other bits / auto jumble / triva that make it all the more interesting.
Was it my imagination or did the car they built sit too low at the back? They transplanted the sports suspension from the V12 onto the 3.6 but I suspect that a V12 is much more nose-heavy than a straight-six, so they ended up with a car which pointed at the sky.Really liked the Jag XJS/R project - great idea.

I've found this pic of it - check out the amount of air under the front wheelarch.

Just compared it to some other XJS TWR'S and it does look a bit nose high: maybe the nearside rear tyre is flatI've found this pic of it - check out the amount of air under the front wheelarch.

I have wanted the last 2 episodes and it's not bad
What I dislike is how it's very similar to Fast and loud. Ok it's nice to see Uk/Euro cars/vans get fixed etc... But i've never heard the word "flip a car" other than in the US. So it does seem that they are trying to hard to copy Fast and loud in the UK. Which is not good to me.
But that's just my view

I'm in two minds over the show, some of it just doesn't gel. For one I cannot understand why a people working in a London based garage are traveling to Lancashire to look at over priced cars in a dodgy scrap yard. Surely there are more convincing bargains to be had in the classifieds locally?
Having said that I did enjoy the Jag and H van episodes.

If they are a genuine business they must be filming it elsewhere as that's not a proper working garage, there is no other cars around.Having said that I did enjoy the Jag and H van episodes.
