Has anyone got any experience of this? Looking at one or two cars in France/Netherlands that are ex UK registered cars which will have been exported "permanently" with the DVLA

Do you just get a V5 with no previous owners and an import mark on the hpi?

I'm in the process of doing this with a vehicle from ROI (Eire). You'll need a V5/55 import pack from the DVLA. Whilst you're waiting for this you'll need a NOVA 1 confirmation from the HMRC confirming there is no VAT to be paid on the car (if it's a re-import, the VAT will have been paid at original purchase). You can do this online at:

https://www.gov.uk/nova-log-in

And should be turned around in 48-72 hours

You'll then need to send the completed V5/55 forms, NOVA1 declaration, new logbook, proof of identity, payment of VED (Unless you re-import on a SORN), and proof of insurance (if it's coming from mainland Europe) to the DVLA They quote a 72 processing time then 10 working days for the new V5 to come through the post.

Be careful though, you'll have to insure he car on its VIN number as it wont be registered in the UK. Few companies do this and will only cover you for up to 14 days on the VIN, so you have to hope the DVLA can turn around your application in that time.

NOVA1 is a ball-ache if you're not registered with the HMRC as you'll have to do it by post. Good luck!
