So two weeks ago I sent off my V5 with a small covering letter explaining some changes. Recorded Signed for.

Except the bd thing hasn't been signed for. The post office don't know where it is and aren't interest until its been missing for 20 days.

I've never had a problem with these shysters until now. But then I've always just sent things First class in the past.

fking fk fk. Cool story e.t.c

Never send anything important 'Recorded Delivery', use 'Special Delivery' instead, it is a much better service.

Sent my V5 and cut up driving license today due to an address change to the DVLA. Just used standard 1st class, will see what happens!

Photocopy anything you send to DVLA.
Always obtain proof of posting.

If it makes you feel better, i sent my passport in, signed delivery by some guy called "ian." Apparently they never recieved the passport, then suddenly they had the forms but no photos or old passport... but the forms were with the passport and new photos... then they tell me to fill in a lost passport forum as i must have lost it, not them, me....

not dvla, but they are all the same.

No great surprise - and not just DVLA.

The serviced offices I used to work in had a shared post room. It was common to see "signed-for" post sat on the side by the pigeon holes, with the peel-off still present, so clearly not signed for. Some of it was for firms that weren't there any more, some of it was for wrong addresses.

There really isn't some magical power about paying for a signature on post. It works well with residential deliveries, it doesn't work at all well with businesses.

Don't they tell you to wait at least 6 weeks before applying for a replacement?

They are awful at the moment. I was prosecuted for no insurance on a car I sold over a year before, DVLA suddenly you need 'proof of postage'. They clearly had no bother sending the summons through the normal post. I then sent off a reg transfer to them including the V5C/2 which they lost, sent me back the docs. And to finish it off another V5 was lost by my other half and we've spent 3 months appealing parking fines. To say they are fking useless is an understatement.

Pritty much sums up my experiences too. Shame that what was once quite a well running (not perfect) service which physical branches etc is not a mystical beast that lives in the sea.

Contact them through their website.

I waited over a month for a new V5C to arrive, it too was sent recorded delivery, when it didn't arrive and worrying about these new tax laws etc and having previously been stung for a £25 fee for a new V5C request the last time they lost documents (didn't use recorded delivery....) I contacted them via their website.

They emailed back, asked some questions about vehicle to confirm x, y & z, which I did along with a scan of the V5C, which the previous owner had the good sense to take before we filled out the new keeper details.
New V5C arrived within 48hrs.

I found this thread useful whilst googling about recorded delivery, lost docs, DVLA, tax etc

Well it looks like it was never signed for. I complained to the Royal Mail who have admitted losing it and sent me a book of half a dozen stamps as compensation. I'll be mighty pissed off if I have to pay for a new V5. Will have to call them tomorrow.

Just......punch

Eeep. Bit worrying, as I sent my old passport off with a renewal form just the other day - only sent it 1st class... :S

The thieving buggers at Royal Mail are a law unto themselves.

Sent a prcel by Special delivery, it arrived completely empty apart from a letter inside it, just torn open.

Royal Mail say that thay have only a limited responsibility to compensate, they dont get it that their employee stole my property and they come back and say limited liability.

The bd tea leaf will keep on stealing anything that he wants.

I agree up to a point. The OH had to send her reg doc, driving licence and proof of address to the DVLA a few years ago to change the status of a car that she'd bought that had previously been registered as a Motability vehicle.

Sent all the documents via Special Delivery, they got it and processed it and sent the whole lot back by normal post. Then someone in the Post Office went and nicked it.
