If, like me, you may have been pleased to have had your car taken in for a recall to get the sticking fuel cap looked at... only to be disappointed to find that the solution didn't always work. Anyhow, I have a quick, though not overly glamorous fix that doesn't involve going into the boot/trunk.

A short video is here http://youtu.be/5xedzWLoemM (I had someone press the button to keep the video short so don't think it's magic!)

Basically, take out any credit card (please note the use of my Aston recovery card!)
Slide it in to the gap at the 6 o'clock between the cap and car.
The bend builds a slight pressure.
Walk to the front of the car and press the release button.
Hey presto - cap open.
Don't forget to pick up your credit card... otherwise people really will think that Aston owners have money to throw away!!!

Or like me, after a four hour drive on the day I picked up the car, you can do it by opening the boot, moving all your luggage, then removing the cover, before using the emergency fuel filler cap release mechanism, having found it in the dark, feeling like a right tt as the cars line up behind you at the petrol pump.

I too used my Aston Martin Recovery Card to prize the flap open. The Boots discount card just wouldn't do.

Anyway it's fixed now and I'm certain I now have the best remote fuel filler flap release mechanism in the whole wide world.
