Had this thing for a month now, thought I'd post a few thoughts about it!

It's a November 2007-built car with 63k miles on it. I'm the 3rd owner. I bought it to replace my E92 335i Manual that I'd had for the last year. So I may as well get the inevitable out of the way - the comparison:

  • M3 is obviously quite a bit faster but in a very different way - the 335i has great punch from 1,100rpm whereas the M3 only really gets going from about 3,500rpm. This means that you can't cruise along in 6th gear at 30mph and that's taken some getting used to. The M3 head-butts its limiter though which the 335i never did
  • 335i was a great sounding car but the M3 is another level - V8 burble from idle but proper shriek at the top end
  • M3 feels much more alive and much more special even from the turn of the key (err, press of button)
  • 335i was much better on fuel - averaged 26mpg per tank in the year I had it with 35mpg possible on motorway runs. The M3 struggles to reach 20mpg
  • I didn't have iDrive in my 335i which I've realised was a mistake - it's a very useful tool, even if old now.
  • The 335i was a really good all-round car (nigh-on perfect as a family wagon) but it just didn't excite enough for some in their late-mid-20s (no I will not accept I'm in my late 20s at 27 yet)
