I watched Forest Gump last night on Sky, for about the sixth time!

There's a scene in it where he's at the grave of his wife - delivering a letter from his son. Every time I've watched this part of the film it brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.

It got me thinking, despite being a 'bloke' I do like movies which generate emotion, so what other movies can people recommend that can "bring a tear to your eye"?

Roman Holiday.

I'm going through something of an Audrey Hepburn obsession at the moment. Watched RH for the first time last week and it was pretty sad at the end when their eyes get all glassy at the end.

When I was a kid and saw Short Circuit I bawled my eyes out at the end. I saw it cheap a couple of weeks ago so got the DVD for a laugh, but I was surprised that I was still quite upset by it

I'm such a woman!

Very girly film but Love Actually always gets me, especially the scenes between Colin Firth and the cleaner.

Meet Joe Black is another one garanteed to bring a lump to my throat

My GF is always in floods when ET is saying goodbye.

I cried when I saw Watership Down in the cinema, but I was very young.

Since then, despite a few throat-lump moments, Le Grand Bleu is the only one that has got me to shed a tear.

I cried whilst reading The Life of Pi, when he realised he was blind. That surprised me.

Dead Poet's Society - the bit where they all get up on their desks and say "Oh Captin, My Captin." Was board when it was first released and went to see it one afternoon - Cried my eyes out.

Saw it again a few years ago and it had the same effect!

Forrest Gump gets me sometimes - depends on the mood.

Also shed a tear at the end of Titanic

Saving Private Ryan - sounds daft (well it is actually quite sad) but its the whole "futility of war" thing. Shocking and disturbing, especially since I was told war stories when I was a child of the Normandy landings - it adds a graphic realistic element to my imagination.

I must admit, I am a big jessie. If I watch any sort of Hugh Grant type film with my gf I find myself having to clear my throat and make some joke about breasts in order to stop the impending blubbing.

Even watching Con Air last night when Cage is reunited with his wife and daughter I was thinking "Oh no, here we go". It's the damned music I tell you

The worst offender though is Calito's Way when he gets shot at the end, just when he is so close to his dream

God, where do I start?
The Pianist and Schindler's List naturally.
Notting Hill (I think I'd cry if Julia Roberts started blubbing in front of me)
Love Actually from the opening credits they've got you.
End of The Affair. The music does it.
Kramer vs Kramer obviously.
Man On The Moon.
Boys Don't Cry.
In the Bedroom.
21 Grams.
Eternal Sunshine.
Unbreakable where his son did the drawing...... Yes I am a northerner.

A relatively unknown film called Hawks starring Timothy Dalton.

Basically its the story of two terminal cancer patients.

Its the bit at the end with the empty wheelchair.

Can I move this for you?

No, thats the best man...

I’m a bit of a geek so the end of the Lord of the Rings movies brings me close to a tear, especially the first and second when Samwise gives his speeches. I grew up reading the books and really felt that Peter Jackson made the best adaptation possible, Tolkien was never one for writing emotionally deep characters, focusing more on history and combat but in the movies you (or I) really care about the characters.

The end of Back to the Future 3 where the delorean is destroyed is also a heart wrenching moment.

My emotional depth knows no limits!

Andy

Ps. On a more recent note, I could have cried all the way through Ocean’s Twelve at the weekend, how could they do it? Ruin the perfect recipe and render the first movie all but pointless!
