I'm going to try and fit a new panel over the original holes. I can see that most are not wired up but can't see which wires are supposed to go where.

Does any-one have a drawing showing the lamps and the wires?

I'm coming down to 6 lamps which I think will be:

indicators
battery/alternator
oil pressure (lack of)
lights
main beam
fog lamps

Ignition, Oil Pressure, Indicators, Main Beam and Sidelights wink

Does this help.... wiring diagram ?

Ignition light is the little circle near the alternator, wires NY and G. G, green is live with ignition on, lamp earths through the alternator, Brown/Green the little wire on the back of your alternator.

Oil Pressure (not standard) requires an ignition fed live to the light then it earths through the oil switch on the engine.

Indicators is on the diagram.Green/White and green/Red, the furthest right lamp on Barry's photo

Main beam is on the diagram, pick up a live from anything that's live with beam on, should be Blue/Red

Ditto sidelights, except it should be a thinner Red wire

Ditto fog lights, Brown/red

Hi Mick,

I have removed my S1 dashboard this weekend and did make notes of what warning lamps were where in the quarter circle and which wires went to each ( not saying that they are correct mind as one only had one wire to it! )
I will draw it up / write it out sometime tomorrow evening and post it on here.

Dave.

As promised a write up of the set up of my S1 warning light arc and the wiring currently to it. Some did work others didn't - some had blown lamps and others strange wiring see below.

TVR S1 warning light arc set up from late 1987 car ( but with 2.9 cosworth 24v engine ).

There are 10 warning lights in the quarter arc;

Starting from the bottom of the arc working upwards these are : -
1 - Indicators on
2 - Low oil pressure warning light
3 - Brake warning light
4 - Handbrake warning light
5 - Main beam headlights on
6 - Fuel warning light
7 - Fog lights on
8 - Dipped headlights on
9 - Low charge / Battery warning light
10- Sidelights on

The above symbols are etched into the plastic arc cover so can't be changed on my car - however the colour of the translucent bulb covers behind them can. Currently mine are either orange, blue, red or green ( I will swop these about to give the conventional colours behind the appropriate symbol eg green behind indicators, blue behind main beam headlights etc, which they are currently not ).

The lamp holders for the warning lights are all two pin with a plastic insulating tag between the pins.

The wiring colours to each warning light ( as numbered 1 to 10 above ) are as follows on my car, but I cannot say that this is how they should be ( the wiring behind my dash panel is a terrible botch job in places!).

1 - top pin connects to green / white cable
bottom pin to green / red cable

2 - top pin - not connected!
bottom pin connects to green cable

3 - top pin to black/ yellow cable
bottom pin to mid-green cable

4 - top pin to mid-green cable
bottom pin to black / white cable

5 - top pin to black cable
bottom pin to red cable

6 - this is a confusing one and appears wrong to me but
top pin to black cable connected to the central rotary dimmer switch
bottom pin to black cable connected to top pin of 8 ( dipped headlamp light).

7 - top pin to brown / red cable
bottom pin to black cable

8 - top pin to black cable ( connected to bottom pin on 6 )
bottom pin to blue / white cable.

9 - top pin to brown / yellow cable
bottom pin to dark green cable

10 - top pin to black cable
bottom pin to red / white cable.

In effect the top and bottom positions are unimportant and I assume that all black cables should be the earth cables, but I have noted the positions as some cables are a very tight stretch to warning lamp pins.

Comparing this with the S1 circuit diagram (taken I think from Steve Heaths book) the cable colouring for warning lights 1, 3, 4 and 7 appear correct - 5, 8, 10 appear incorrect (look to be swopped around but I will check) and 2, 6 and 9 would appear to have no circuit to connect to as the senders are variable resistance type and feed the oil pressure, fuel level and voltmeter gauges directly.

I will probably use the fuel warning light to indicate when the engine cooling fan is on by taking a feed off the supply side to the fan.

As for warning lights 6 and 9 I don't know as there is no real need for them, but I am intrigued by the brown / yellow cable currently connected to 9 as I have yet to find this cable colour coding on Steve Heaths diagram although Phillpot is no doubt correct ( yep diagram shows a brown yellow off the alternator - but not connected to any warning lights).

Mike - if you read this, how do you make a low oil pressure warning light work when the pressure sender is a variable resistance device ( or is there a separate low pressure switch on the 2.9 engine I haven't found yet? ).

No problem but always nice when folk say thanks, as for the numbers I had them written down somewhere... if I can just find that piece of paper wink

I think Kitchski has nicked it Phonzey!
He's planning to spend the lotto winnings to pay for flying lessons so he can secretly fly the Wellesbourne Vulcan 655 to his secret lair darn sarf somewhere. Project Daedelus he's calling it. ( You didn't hear this from me, just check out the B,P & T forum wink )
