Looking through AT the other day at performance pack MK7 GTI's I noticed for not much more than the starting prices for these Motorpoint did new ones well specced (Nav, roof, 19's etc)....so what's the catch, Euro imports, not to spec or something?

Just intrigued, cheers.

Crap customer service but if you can face dealing with them then the cars are cheap

Sometimes it can be a Euro import. e.g. Malta etc

You might get a manufactures 2 year warrant instead of 3 years.

But.... do your own research on the car you want.

Bought from them before - happy to do so again.

Golfs will be non-parallel imports, i.e. there will be spec differences. Maybe xenons missing?

Do your research though and there are bargains to be had smile

You would need to check the spec as compared to a standard UK car as it may be missing a few things
Does seem like a good deal though

For reference a similar car ordered through drive the deal would be approx 26K

My mum bought a Kia from them 3 years ago, saved £8k on the price of a new one and still has the Kia warranty. She reserved it for £50, drove to Birmingham, paid cash and drove it home. She said the easiest car she's ever purchased.

I've seen these PP GTI's and they are missing certain things a UK car would have including adaptive cruise control and darkened side and rear windows. They could be missing Xenon and LED style rear lights but it's difficult to tell from the pictures.

They do have the roof and 19" wheel which are costly options and if I remember correctly couldn't be ordered together in the UK.

Ex-Motorpoint employee here - used to work in the Online Centre, based in Derby.

If the car is brand new and unregistered it will be an import - the majority of them come from Malta or Cyprus.
If you ask them on the online centre, they'll be able to go into the cars details via its stock number, where Stock Control will have written in the spec differences most of the time.

As said above, do your research - they are a good buy providing you are happy with the variations in spec.

Most of the VW's that Mpoint had will have had a 3 year warranty from BUILD DATE - so normally 30 months-ish remaining.
Other manufacturers will have 2 - some of the Audi's had 5!

Hope this helps.

I think someone on here had one thinking they had a brand new one off the production line but was loads of surface rust on parts. Turned out it had been stood for several months and not a newly produced car at all.

They may be more upfront about it now.

The imported Golfs do look good value. They aren't necessarily a bad buy if you're buying them under the knowledge of their status.

Someone asked the same question over on Mumsnet. They're EU imports.

If they're looking £23,999 then i think i'd rather have a full fat UK car for the sake of an extra couple of thousand.

And another thing to bear in mind is that you wont be able to avail of manufacturer backed finance offers. For example at the minute theres a £1,250 contribution from VW if you use their PCP deal (which you can cancel and get the saving anyway).

Then theres the subsidised service packs you can add on to UK cars. Not sure if you can do that with an import?

Also come resale time, there WILL be a price difference in value

Did she save £8,000 off the cheapest she could have bought one here, or off list price?

Assuming she didnt pay £2,000 for a £10K list price car, i'm going to go out on a limb and say it was something up the range - maybe one of their 4x4s? Again the likes of broadspeed are offering £5-6K off anyway.
