It is about the self entitlement that a generation of people feel is owed to them.
It's from a site called Wait but Why.

I got through most part.

"2) Stop thinking that you’re special. The fact is, right now, you’re not special. You’re another completely inexperienced young person who doesn’t have all that much to offer yet. You can become special by working really hard for a long time."

And here I ended.

I'm assuming this is written by "mondeo man" who is out earned by some yuppies in the city.

Its bks

I'm generation "y"

the reason we're pissed off, is not because we have a sense of entitlement but that our parents generation have raped us for every penny, stored up a st load of problems and then turn into NIMBYS.

And what are your parents responses to your considerations?

It might have been interesting if he'd managed to be vaguely objective...

What a very strange post.

Perhaps you need to take a look at what your parents and their generation has given you and then you may not be so ungrateful.

spot on.

They climbed the ladder of success and then pulled it up behind them.

Case in point = property prices they're happy to vote for any party that keeps prices rising rather than one that will build the required number of homes but have to fight that generation for planning permission anyway.

My parents? Substantial loans to help us get on the property ladder before the age of 30. (Similar to them, except they didn't need loans.)

My parents' generation? Perhaps you could enlighten me?

I consider myself extremely lucky, sadly very few of my similarly aged friends are.

It's true, as much as any vastly simplified broad brush generalisation can be.

If the credit crunch and financial meltdown of the last decade has done any good it's to nip any enthusiasm and glimmer of hope from that generation, they won't hit their 30s with any delusions, "E" damaged serotonin systems or bitterness over the lies of advertising and reality TV.

Well maybe the later but that's true of the baby boomers too.

How have parents contributed to student debt? I actually think University education should be free for all those that qualify, but how have parents n=made it worse?

As for nowhere to live there's actually plenty of places, just not geographically where you'd like to be. Try Halifax, a pleasant town in S. Yorkshire.

Since last week. Only 1/4 of the town is derelict, plenty of rundown cottages for spoilt little waifs to purchase for sweet FA. It's paradise compared to Burenley.

Maybe, but my A-hole is paradise compared to Burnley so it's not much of a comparison.

Bullst unresearched opinion piece. Generation Y, Millennials call them what you like - the first generation in a long, long time that will be worse off than the previous and aren't happy about it. Calling them wimps for it, doesn't make it less true.

"Gen x" born 1960 to 1975
"Gen y" born 1975 to 1990
"Millenials" born 1990 to 2015
"The Damned" born 2015 to -

As an early Gen Y I don't care about having "less" or "more" than my parents and that's not what this is about, it's about what our expectations were or are, and that's largely the fault of advertising, marketing and the detachment technology has given us from many core aspects of our humanity. As great as the internet and technology has been it's not as good as walking your dog up a big hill.
