Hello All

Has anyone has had dealing with being flashed in a rental car whiles in Italy?

I was sent a nice letter however the photo evidence only show a car I may have been driving is not conclusive.
The photos I have found on the web where the alleged infraction happen are different from the one sent so I have requested the geographical position of the camera and evidence of the reduced speed.

How does the appeal system works in Italy? Similar to the UK, i.e innocent until proven guilty?
How long does it takes for an appeal to happen?

If I am at fault I will pay no issue, however the only evidence provided show a car on a road lashed at 123kph

Is the car in the picture the car you hired? Same reg? Where you in possession of the car at the time of the alleged offence?

The car was the one I was using at the time.
What bugs me is the picture they send is different from the one on Google Map.
The pictures are taken a bit more than 2 month apart so it is impossible the road was modified to extend.

Sorry don't understand. Is this an official document you have been sent? Similar to a notice to owner you'd get over here? Or just a pic from the car hire company?

Official looking paper work with a picture of the car.

There are no phone number on the paperwork, it's all done over the interweb

Very basic looking site.

The site doesn't come up on google.

I'll leave you to decide what to do. I may be wrong though so won't advise

Remove the 'ifn' bit from the web address, it's just a hosting server.

I don't believe for a second that an official Italian Government website.

Looks dodgy to me. What does the hire company say, have you contacted them to see if they've received anything?

Yeah, that site looks very dodgy. If it was a hire car you'd have probably had something from the hire company too.

It's a scam. Any penalty received would be paid by the hire company and they would then bill you.

So how did the scammers get the OP's contact details? unless working for the hire company.

or an email hack, or hacking the hire company, or paying the bored, underpaid guy manning the desk.

Jack, total scam. Bin the email. Site was registered and created by two really suspicious dudes. I have PM'd you their info and Facebook profiles.

Update - I sent you some other websites they registered as well.

The last time I got a fine for a camera abroad was in both a rental and in Italy. However it was in 2000 so things have no doubt changed since then. I got a ticket in the post back in England a few weeks later. Popped it in the bin.

I got caught in Italy last year for speeding in a hire car, and like others said the hire company got the fine, and I had to pay the hire company. RE the scam, there are some cheeky b*stards out there....
