I managed to knock over a tin of silver Hammerite onto my tarmac drive. Is there any way of removing it? If not I'll probably have to go with the option of painting over it with black.

Tell people it's a Banksy and charge them to see it.

Shouldn't be hard, since hammerste never sticks for long to what you WANT it to...

Do's:
<snip>
Don'ts:
Do not knock over open tin on a tarmac drive and ask for help on an internet forum.

It's cellulose based (or was) so try cellulose thinners. Not sure it will work once dry though.

Thanks will give this a try. Tried blasting it with a jet wash but no use. I guess it really is hard wearing stuff! (or maybe when you don't want it to be...)

Should I not ask first if it prefers red?

A decent pressure washer should make quick work of it! Maybe use some white spirits to soak in first? I can see that leaving some form of ''clean'' spot on the driveway compared to the rest of it though.

Clean spot would be better than the current silver circle. The neighbour did try with his pressure washer. Although not sure how good it is. I will try to soak in with thinners/white spirit and give it another blast. If not a little layer of black over the top will make it less noticeable.

Try a test area first to make sure the thinners don't melt the tarmac

Anything that will dissolve hardened paint is very likely to dissolve the tarmac. Which is better, a silver patch or a hole?

Cellulose will liquefy the paint and probably the tarmac making one hell of a mess.

How big an area is it?

Tarmac is made from stones coated in tar, I don't know many readily available chemicals that melt stone.

OP: Paint stripper or standard thinners: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=paint+thinn...

Yes it will melt tar though.

The best way to deal with spills is catch them when they are still wet, throw a whole tub of washing up liquid on, brush in well to dissolve, power wash off.

Hmmm maybe best to try cover it rather than risk opening up a hole on the drive. The tarmac isn't the best quality to start with.

Area is about 15cm across. Not the end of the world just a bit annoying and sticks out a bit. I guess it was better I knocked the silver pot over rather than the red!

Wire bush it once its hardened in a few weeks. Then jetwash off any last little bits.
