Normally I am really happy with DPD's service. This morning I got the usual text saying I was going to receive a delivery today. But unlike the normal 1hr delivery slot they advised, it said between 6am and 10pm!

I've been tracking the driver all day, and now (20:15) it still says he's an hour away from me. What's galling is that he must have literally driven straight past the end of my road at about 2pm, goodness knows how the computer has working out his route!

When I tracked it this morning and saw he was already in my (small) town, I thought there must have been a glitch and it would arrive turn up at any moment, so I've waited in all day. Was supposed to have an informal dinner date tonight, and I've been delaying all evening, telling her I'm still waiting for the courier. Not sure she believes me any more!

I do hope the same driver hasn't been at it for 14.5 hours.

Yes, according to the tracking it's the same van, I'm delivery No 101 apparently, although I don't think he left the depot before 9am. He's on no 95 now, and just drove past the end of my road again. Can't be far away now, it better be something good after all this!

I discussed this with my dpd guy. They got past my road because they have before 9 and before 1pm deliveries so don't use the standard "travelling salesman" algorithm so beloved of us that did operational research degrees.

Well they do but with a multitude of additional constraints not just shortest distance covered and least cost and time

Is this the result of a drunken purchase or have you just got a very bad memory?

Gift?

I'm hoping it's one of the options you gave though

Hadn't thought of the the pre 1pm thing, no way he delivered anything before 9 or 10am. I think the trunk lorries get to the depot quite late in the night/morning as we're right down in Cornwall.

I was talking to one of their drivers a couple of weeks ago when he was delivering to me - apparently the handhelds/system won't let them scan as package as delivered if they're early - as that's before the delivery window and it would throw off the rest of their timed delivery slots.

He's now driven past and is 5 miles away in the other direction!

There's a couple of different things it would be, although most of them I wasn't expecting until later in the week.

I've had 2 parcels delivered on the same day. The handheld device made the driver wait a few minutes between my parcels. Must have been infuriating.

Just been, it was a mobile phone that I ordered a week ago. Not that exciting, just didn't want to miss the delivery and end up waiting in another day.

I thought I’d revive this rather than starting a new thread.

I’m in a quite infuriating situation with DPD at the moment. I did a blizzard of Christmas present buying last weekend and stuff is starting to drift in now. One purchase, a couple of hundred quid’s worth from a quality jeweller, was out of delivery to me yesterday via DPD. I got my one hour delivery slot (which can’t be changed, they sternly tell you) for 3-4pm. I loaded it all up on their app and was a bit depressed to see I was delivery 97 and the driver wasn’t making much progress. By 4pm he was only on 42. Off and on during the England match I was following his progress - he got to about 65 by 8pm and then no further updates.

This morning, the whole thing starts again. Another one hour delivery slot (3:30 to 4:30 this time) and delivery 95. The same thing has happened again, got as far as 65 and then packed up.

I’ve no idea why he’s only managing relatively few drops each day but I’m not sure how I’m ever going to get it if they keep planning his route out like this. I imagine there are another 30 customers in a similar situation.

If it shapes up this way again tomorrow I think I’m going to have to have a go at the jeweller and tell them if they can’t manage to deliver the damn thing they’re going to have to refund me.

No need to have a go at the jewellers, just ask them to get in touch with DPD from their end.

Maybe “have a go at” was the wrong choice of words. I meant I would have to try and get a resolution via the jeweller because I’m sure if I try and wade through DPD’s support I’ll get told “it’s out for delivery today”. By the time the driver gives up, the support lines are closed.
