I know this might seem like a silly comparison , but does anyone one else think the fact the c class coupe looks like just a smaller s class coupe and that this takes away from the S class ?
At least with the S saloon you have got a lot of leg room , but it looks tight enough in the back of an s coupe ?
I know someone buying a s class coupe isn't going to buy a c class instead but it definitely takes away from it.
Just as the current S class doesn't have as much presence as the old model the latest s class coupe doesn't look very substantial either.

I would agree with you to some extent.
S class would certainly be the nicer car BUT you are paying through your back side for it which with anything then comes down to prestige and snob factoring.

I think its also one of the reasons sales have dried up for 911 - because the lower end of the range has got soooo good.

I was surprised to see they are actually still bringing out an E class coupe so again this will in some regards make it even harder to justify an S class - unless only a S class will do (for the rich)

The twin deficiencies of the smaller car are the presence of a 'B' pillar and the absence of a modest multi-cylinder petrol engine. It's rattler or psycho with nothing in between.

The S-Class coupe is much more special (as you would expect).

Put it this way - and not taking anything away from the C-Class coupe which is a nice car -

The C 2dr is more 'sales reppy' while the S 2dr is, as - and I hate to quote him - Donald trump would say "big league". It's a bit like saying why would you buy the 4dr C over the 4dr S - yes, ok it's bigger in the back, but that's not what coupes are about. I'm really glad they brought back the S-Class name for the 2dr. I hope to buy one when they've depreciated enough for me!

I have no problem accepting that the S coupe or saloons are nice cars but the fact that the C and E look so like them is good for buyers of the cheaper models rather than the S.

if I was comparing the S class coupe to a Aston or Bentley and saw you could get a mini-me for a quarter of the price - think it would put me off !

Exactly this - A bentley/aston can be spotted a mile off - the mercedes can also be spotted but you dont really know which one! could be a c200d AMG line or a dam s63 until it gets closer that is

They might look similar in pictures but the S coupe is quite imposing in real life and the C Class just isn't...at all.

quite imposing maybe but not very imposing or substantial looking - like the current S class saloon it lacks the presence of the previous model ( CL in this case).

is it just laziness that they make the S class look just like a bigger version of the C and E ?

not sure it's laziness or whether MB just want to have a particularly branded look.

the new c coupe looks far too upright and stumpy to me, whereas the s coupe is sleek, wide and a much better resolved look to my eyes. Bit like the difference between the SL and the SLK (both of which I think look naff!).

saw the new e class coupe today , lovely dark green metallic colour. Really makes S class coupe even more pointless. Looked cramped in rear but don't think S class if exactly spacious in rear.

As said I know the S class has a place in the market but Mercedes are taking away a lot of its prestige.
