Hi All,

Bought a new car not long back, filled in the logbook which was then sent away by the previous owner.
The logbook has been delivered in my name, but the DVLA in their infinite wisdom have spelt my surname Woodall as Woodhall - which everyone seems to do anyway. Not quite sure how they managed that as all the had to do was copy what I'd written on the logbook, and even then I gave my driving licence number.

I'd assume for legal purposes I need to get this rectified, however knowing the DVLA they'll end up adding the amended name as another keeper..

Part of me just wants to leave it, but if I do, will the MD of the DVLA come round to my house with a baseball bat?

That's exactly what happened to me. I returned the V5 with every proper sections completed correctly & it came back with the mistake as the privious keeper & the correct spelling as the new keeper. I didn't bother trying to get their mistake rectified as I expected the same thing to happen again.

If in that situation again I personally wouldn't get it changed because it is obviously just a clerical error.

Isn't there a box on the V5 that needs to be ticked to indicate new keeper or not?

Believe its by the address you fill out.

Else write a letter/moan, but wont get you anywhere, DVLA are completely useless.

I'd just leave it, provided anyone with a modicum of common sense can identify it as your identity it should be fine. I just got my insurance renewal through to find I was actually paying to insure a 'Mitusbishi' for the last year :/

One of my mates had similar. His name is Ayden, and the DVLA had it down as Andrew.

Racked up a couple of parking tickets or similar, someone came knocking at the door asking for "Andrew (surname) to be told "he doesn't live here/don't know anyone with that name" and off they went.

Can you submit a request for change of address?

Leave the address as is but chage your name at the same time or would this not work?

We had it with the Yaris being registered in my name instead of the wife's. Wouldn't bother us too much but didn't want to fall foul with the insurance company.

Updated as per instructions in the link above and sent a covering letter including a copy of the e-mail we had sent to the dealer asking the car to be registered in swmbo's name.

Was glad to receive and updated V5 with no extra owners and the correct name a few weeks later.

It is very easy to rectify by filling in Section 6 (i think) with your correct details and then send the whole thing off.

This happened to me twice last month; first time they got my surname wrong and second time they added an extra letter on the end of my forename. Third time was a charm.

Happened to my wife a while back, when they hopelessly misspelled her surname.

Did nothing, and we sold the car a year later anyway. As long as your correspondence address is ok and you can receive mail from them, I doubt much else matters. I would imagine they are busy enough, without having to pursue you with regard to a rogue 'H'.

Had my surname spelled wrong on every cars V5 bar my BMW's one...I was almost disappointed at it not being wrong (flipside I had to bk the DVLA for telling porkies on the phone to me about whether the V5 had been produced as I got 3 different answers from 3 different staff members!)

Shocking really, as said above make the correction as necessary and send the full thing off.

I had to phone them the other night as I'd registered my wifes car for her in her name on the green slip and sent the V890 off.. Anyway checked a few weeks later and car is as 'Untaxed' phoned them up and said well We've sorn'd it and sent the paperwork in... they received the green slip and issued the V5 (with multiple spelling mistakes) and lost the V890 which was in the same envelope. Anyway next day car was registered as SORN. New V5 arrived with correct name spelling. My V5 was also changed because the missed 3 letters off of my first name and got an entirely different surname to my own. Log book came back about 4 days later all correct.

Just received my V5C with my name George mis spelled as Geroge but the accompanying letter spelled correctly, (had to send green slip in as previous owner had lost the main part of the V5C). On a good note though, I didn't have to pay for the V5C, or wait the 6 weeks before applying.
Me thinks the DVLA are employing people that do not use the English language as their 1st language, (possibly 6th judging by some of the things I've read on here)

If I had a pound for every time I've mistyped my own name logging into systems, I'd be driving an even nicer car! boxedin
