Asking for some help here guys. It's a mate's pic of his mother in a car but I've not managed to establish what make the car is. Any ideas?

Amilcar, I think.

Thanks, just Googled and I think you're right. The grille and swept fenders looks very Amilcar-ish, though it hasn't got the distinctive curved split screen that most have. May be a mod or factory option.

A similar Amilcar (with more conventional wings) at Bicester recently.

That's very similar to the old photo. Same wings, high spare, same side & head lights, bare dumb irons, etc,.
Only the screen is different. It could almost be the same car.

Lovely, I have photos of the two Amilcars with regs each side of that one, (YK 97 & YK 99).

There is a story that Vernon Balls*, (UK Amilcar importer) secured lots of two letter 2 number registrations so that the plates would fit in between the dumb irons at the front. When looking at lots of period UK Amilcar photos most have short numbers.

  • Another myth doing the rounds is that he had a sister called Ophelia... wink

...or, to quote Bill Boddy:
Think of being stopped by the police and asked your name.
"Balls."
"Now answer sensibly, sir."
"Balls."
"Now look here, sir, unless you give a proper answer I will have to arrest you."
